Laura Donnelly, a Northern Ireland actress, is not married yet but is romantically linked with Jeremy ‘Jez’ Butterworth, an English playwright, screenwriter, and film director.

Along with appearing in series like Outlander, Casualty, and Hex, Donnelly has also played the lead part in the 2008 Irish thriller Insatiable

Donnelly portrayed Amalia True, a Victorian heroine with peculiar skills, in the sci-fi drama series The Nevers, which is what viewers are really praising her for.

As mentioned, The Nevers star is not yet married, but currently, she is dating Butterworth. Although they have been together for a while, it is unknown exactly when they first started dating.

As per TheCinemaholic, the iconic duo started dating around 2015. Together, they share two children, both daughters, and reside together in London.

In addition to their blooming marriage, Donnelly and Butterworth have a solid professional background, with the playwright having written plays that starred Donnelly and were performed on Broadway.

In consultation with her, Jez wrote the Tony-nominated play The Ferryman, which was partially based on her early experiences of Northern Ireland. 

Donnelly rejects the idea of publicly disclosing her private affairs. The actress claims that the more personal information someone shares, the more likely it is that they would be accused of seeking out that kind of attention. 

She once made it abundantly apparent on her Twitter account that she would not respond to any direct messages. But it’s fascinating to see how her personal life intersected with her professional life when she appeared in The Ferryman in London while carrying her second child and also portrayed a pregnant role.

Who is Laura Donnelly’s partner Jeremy ‘Jez’ Butterworth?

Butterworth is an English playwright, screenwriter, and director who was born in March 1969 in London. Together with John-Henry and Tom, his brothers, he has co-written screenplays.

The director has four siblings, three brothers, Tom, Steve, and John-Henry, and a sister named Joanna. 

He went to St. Albans’ Verulam Comprehensive School and Cambridge’s St. John’s College. All the brothers have worked in theater and film. Tom and John-Henry are writers, while Steve is a producer.

Butterworth’s play Mojo, which premiered in 1995, won the 1996 Laurence Olivier, Evening Standard, The Writer’s Guild, the George Devine awards, and the Critic’s Circle Award. 

The Ferryman by Butterworth premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in April 2017. It became the play with the quickest sales in the history of the Royal Court Theatre under Sam Mendes’ direction.

The play won the 2017 Evening Standard Award for Best Play and the 2018 Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Play. It also won the 2019 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play and Tony Award for Best Play.

Some of his famous plays are The Night Heron, The Winterling, Parlour Song, Jerusalem, The River, and many more.

Laura Donnelly’s past relationship

In the late 1990s, Laura Donnelly began dating Nathan Connolly, an Irish musician who played guitar and sang backup for the well-known alternative rock band Snow Patrol. 

Donnelly was quoted as saying that she could not spend her life with someone who did not have an artistic background and did not comprehend and respect her work during the course of their lengthy relationship.

Belfast Telegraph stated that Donnelly and Connolly dated at least until 2013. However, Donnelly disclosed that her relationship with Connolly was finished in a 2015 interview with Independent and suggested that she was seeing someone new, who also happened to be a writer. 

She added how wonderful it was to be with someone familiar with actors’ lives, referring to Jeremy Butterworth, her current partner.
