5 Things to Know About ‘Warrior Nun’ Star Toya Turner
Everything you need to know about ‘Warrior Nun’ star Toya Turner.

Toya Turner is an aspiring Jamaican-American actress who gained the limelight after appearing on NBC’s hit show Chicago Fire and Netflix’s Easy.
Her acting career took a turn for the better when the actress was cast as Shotgun Mary in Netflix’s fantasy drama series Warrior Nun.
1. Who are Toya Turner’s parents? Early life explored
Turner was born to a retired Chicago police officer and a nurse. She was raised on the South Side in the Rosemoor area near 103rd Street and Martin Luther King Drive, Chicago but also has Jamaican roots.
However, her parents name is unknown at the time. Her exact date of birth is unknown at the time, but according to online reports, she was born in 1990, and as of 2022, she might be 32 years old.
Turner holds American nationality and might belong to mixed ethnicity. She is five feet and 6 inches tall and weighs about 57 kg.
The actress attended Thornridge High School. Later, she went to the British American Drama Academy (BADA) at Oxford University.
She started her acting career in the city but wanted to go to a different area to have access to more chances.
Turner made the decision to relocate to California, but she had minor appearances in regional television series, including Empire, Easy, Chicago Med, and Chicago Fire. She became aware of the calls she was receiving for particular roles.
“It would be a mom; that’s it. Or being a mom whose kid gets shot, which is a very important story to tell because it is. The same story, the same audition all the time,” she noted via Chicago SunTimes.
The rising actress made a decision that altered the course of her career. She moved to Los Angeles, and soon after, she was invited to the Warrior Nun audition and got the part.
2. Toya Turner has been outspoken about embracing the Black Lives Matter Movement
Since appearing on the Warrior Nun, Turner has developed a sizable social media following, and she isn’t afraid to utilize it to draw attention to issues that are significant to her.
She has been a steadfast advocate for both the reallocation of police funding and the Black Lives Matter movement.
She hasn’t diverted her attention from what she considers to be top-of-mind: raising awareness of gun violence and police deaths, even after receiving the nod as a series regular in the Netflix series Warrior Nun—the first in her acting career.
The actress noted, “What matters most to me right now is ALL Black Lives Matter, defund the police and invest back into Black communities and justice for Breonna Taylor,” to the Chicago SunTimes.
3. Toya Turner’s net worth revealed
Turner’s estimated net worth is around $500 thousand – $900 thousand. Her primary source of income is her career as an actress.
She developed her acting abilities in Shakespearean masterpieces such as Olivia in Twelfth Night, Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet, and Alonzo in The Tempest.
Additionally, she established a voiceover career, working with well-known companies like McDonald’s, Dove, Auto Zone, Walmart, and Coca-Cola, to name a few.

Rosie O’Donnell & Ruby Dee were Turner’s coworkers in her debut on-camera role for Sony Pictures Lifetime Movie America. She returned to television and showcased her improv abilities on NBC’s successful show Chicago Fire and Netflix’s Easy.
At the same time, she continued to gain experience by starring in a number of small films.
Incredibles 2, EmpireFallen Souls, Using, Dead Women Walking, Animator, Royal, and The Mick are some of her works so far.
4. Toya Turner as Shotgun Mary in the ‘Warrior Nun’
Turner portrayed the role of Shotgun Mary in the fantasy drama television series Warrior Nun created by Simon Barry which premiered on July 2, 2020, on Netflix.
It was just really different, Turner expressed, for her to read the screenplay and fall in love with it and her audition experience.
She claimed that the part of Shotgun Mary made her dream of being an action star a reality. “I’ve always wanted to be an action star and be in that world. It’s always been a dream of mine watching movies growing up, to finally be a part of it feels really nice,” the actress said during an interview with BriefTake.
When the interviewer asked the Warrior Nun star about her favorite scene, she said that any scene where she was beating someone up was her favorite.
5. Toya Turner’s exit from ‘Warrior Nun’
Since the release of season 2 of the fantasy drama series Warrior Nun on Netflix, interest in the show has increased significantly. Speaking of drama, season 2 is certainly not lacking in it.
The outstanding Sister Mary, also known as Shotgun Mary, who Turner portrayed in season 1, is, unfortunately, can not be seen. Shotgun Mary played a significant role in the season 1 plot, but she doesn’t appear at all in season 2.
Showrunner Simon Davis Barry confirmed in an interview with Screen Rant that Shotgun Mary was actually supposed to return in season 2. Sadly, Turner pulled out of the project, making Mary’s comeback impossible.
He said, “Unfortunately, at the beginning of Season 2’s filming, Toya had to leave the show for personal reasons.”
That being said, Turner has other dreams outside, only landing an action part. She also wants to perform in a western at some point and won’t stop there. In the end, she would adore the chance to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and play a villain in a Black Panther movie.
For the record, the actress is not dating at the moment and currently focusing on her career. Nonetheless, it is not confirmed as Turner has not spoken about this matter publicly.
