Declan Rice’s Parents and Family — Considers Himself to Be of Mixed Nationality

Declan Rice is a talented English professional footballer (soccer in the US) who is currently signed to Premier League club Arsenal and represents the England national team internationally. His position is a defensive midfielder.

The 25-year-old Englishman started his footballing journey when he was just seven years of age, joining the Chelsea Football Club’s youth academy. At 14, he switched to West Ham United’s youth academy and began playing for the club’s youth teams.

On December 16, 2015, Declan signed his first professional contract with West Ham United, but only in April 2017 did he get his first senior team call-up as West Ham geared up to face Sunderland and Everton.

After being in West Ham since 2013 and even captaining it at one point, the defensive midfielder bid farewell in July 2023. On July 15, 2023, he signed a long-term contract with another Premier League club, Arsenal.

Throughout his journey, some people were always supporting, cheering, and motivating the footballer, and those people were none other than his family, consisting of his grandparents, parents, and siblings. Here is what we know about them!

Declan Rice’s parents and siblings

Declan was born on January 14, 1999, to parents Sean Rice and Teresa Rice. As of this writing, little to no information is available about his mother. Nonetheless, Declan has mentioned that his mom has been a great support system.

In one of his interviews, he stated, “I remember I used to play the game for school before my mum would come to pick me up, bring my Chelsea training kit and a bowl of pasta in a little tub, which I’d then eat on the way over to the training session with Chelsea.”

Likewise, when Declan was away from home while at West Ham, he would often break down and call his mom. The footballer mentioned that he usually got homesick during his initial time at West Ham and missed his family very much.

He mentioned, “My mum would come up with my dad on Wednesday to break it up for me because I was homesick at the start because I missed them loads. Honestly, my mum came up and wanted to pull me away from it at West Ham.”

“I would cry on the phone to her because I missed her so much, and my dad, and it would break her heart. Only recently my mum’s brother was telling me, ‘Your mum used to be in tears to me down the phone and like she wanted you to come home,'” he added.

Declan later highlighted his mother’s contributions while talking to West Ham. He said, “Everyone in the squad was eager to mark International Women’s Day and recognize the contributions and achievements of the women in our lives and those who inspire us.”

“I chose to put my mum’s name on the back of my shirt for training, showing my appreciation for all the time and effort she spent helping my two brothers and me become the men we are today. We will each always be forever grateful to her,” he concluded.

As for Declan’s dad, it’s known to many that his father is currently working as Declan’s agent. Declan’s dad is a passionate football enthusiast but isn’t an avid fan of the club his son plays for. Instead, Sean is a devoted Chelsea fan who is even a season ticket holder at the club.

Coming back to Declan’s parents, it’s reported that Sean and Teresa shared their wedding vows in the summer of 1990 — their wedding ceremony was held in London. They are blessed with three children, including Declan, from their marital relationship.

That means Declan has two siblings, both of whom are older than him. Declan’s two siblings are his brothers – he doesn’t have any sisters – named Connor Rice and Jordan Rice. Connor is the eldest Rice sibling, and Jordan is the middle one.

Like Declan, Connor and Jordan were also heavily interested in football, probably because their father was a fan of the sport. Besides, Jordan was very serious about pursuing a professional football career; however, an injury stopped that dream.

As for Connor, he eventually lost interest in the sport. In a feature article written by Declan for England Football, Declan mentioned that both his siblings once played for local teams, and Jordan excelled as a football player, but he sustained a bad injury, which stopped his dream.

He stated, “My brothers had both played for local teams, and Jordan was a good player himself, but he had a bad injury and kind of fell out of love with the game, and Connor was also good but lost his enthusiasm for it.”

In the same feature article written by Declan, he talked about his brother and said, “I’m the youngest of three brothers, Connor and Jordan were both quite a bit older than me, so growing up I was always wanting to play with them and their groups of friends.”

Similarly, Declan mentioned how his father used to take him and his brothers to the park to play football. He also wrote that his dad had seen other kids pressured by their parents and losing interest in football.

He wrote, “My dad had seen that happen – kids playing in matches with parents shouting from the sidelines and he just didn’t want me to go into it. He wanted me to be a kid and to just enjoy playing on the street or with my friends and with my brothers’ mates.”

Overall, the Rice family, especially Declan and his dad, love football and are heavily interested and invested in the sport. Furthermore, it can be said that Declan’s parents and siblings have always supported him in his journey to becoming the star footballer he is now.

Declan Rice’s international switch angered his father

Declan was born and raised in Kingston upon Thames, England. As a result, he already held English nationality and was eligible to represent England internationally. Similarly, as his family was from Ireland, he was also eligible to represent Ireland.

Speaking a little of Declan’s family, his father was born and raised in Ireland, and his paternal grandparents hail from Douglas, County Cork, in Ireland. So, Declan held dual nationality. As for ethnicity, he is of mixed English and Irish ancestry.

Returning to Declan’s international career, he initially played for the Republic of Ireland, which was good news for his father and family. He made his international debut in 2015, playing for the Republic of Ireland U17 team.

In 2018, he made his senior team debut for the Republic of Ireland national football team. However, on February 13, 2019, Declan decided to switch national teams and submitted a request to FIFA to transfer his registration from the Republic of Ireland to England.

This decision initially didn’t bode well for Declan’s Irish father. As per The Sun, Sean reportedly said, “I’m very Irish, my mum and dad were very Irish and Declan grew up in an Irish/English environment as a lot of people from London do.”

“And so at the end of the day, he had to make a choice and I have to support my son. I wouldn’t have thought for 100 years he’d run out in an England shirt but he’s got his reasons. It’s just a shame really — fingers crossed it all goes well,” Declan’s father concluded.

As for Declan, he also had a few things to say after submitting his request to FIFA for his transfer. In a statement made via Instagram, he stated, “This has been an extremely difficult decision and, in all honesty, not one I ever expected to be making at this stage of my career.”

“Like so many people around the world, I consider myself to be of mixed nationality. I am a proud Englishman, having been born and raised in London. However, I am just as proud of my family’s Irish heritage and my affinity and connection with the country.”

“I have equal respect and love for both England and Ireland, and therefore the national team I choose to represent is not a clear-cut, simple selection. Particularly not for a young lad who never dreamed of being in this position,” he added.

As Declan continued, he mentioned that it was his personal decision that he made with his heart and head based on what he believed was best for his future. He also said that he fully accepts that some Irish supporters will be disappointed by his decision.

“Everyone has different opinions in regard to the rules around international representation. However, I hope that people can understand that I have made this decision with honesty, integrity, and the full support of my family,” Declan added.

The footballer then spoke about his pride while playing for the Republic of Ireland. “My pride at wearing the Irish shirt was always 100% genuine. It was a great honour for myself and my family, and something I will always cherish,” he stated.

“In football and in life, I have always tried to be completely honest and true to myself and my family at all times, and that is what I will continue to do,” he concluded. Since making the international switch, Declan has played 48 games for England.

In those 48 games, the defensive midfielder has scored three goals and proved his talent on the field. Furthermore, he has represented his nation in big tournaments, including the UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Bronny James: Paving His Own Way In His Father’s Footsteps

Bronny James: Paving His Own Way In His Father’s Footsteps

Throughout the history of the NBA, there have been a number of father/son combinations that have told their own special story. From Joe and Kobe Bryant to Mychal and Klay Thompson to Bill and Luke Walton, but none of the duos have been given the opportunity that may be taking to the court for the 2024-25 season.

Whether it be on Wednesday, June 26, or the following evening, Bronny James, LeBron’s oldest son, will likely hear his name be called across the NBA Draft stage at the Barclays Center. In a draft class void of elite names that have highlighted previous drafts such as Victor Wembanyama or Zion Williamson, one name that has stood out more than any other of the potential sixty that will be called over the two-night event belongs to LeBron Raymone James Jr. better known simply as Bronny James. Should Bronny hear his name, he will be one step closer to creating history by playing in the NBA at the same time as his father, and possibly even on the same team.

Having lived under a microscope since birth as the oldest child of LeBron James, arguably the greatest basketball player to ever lace up a pair of sneakers, Bronny has had the eyes of the sports world on him since he picked up a basketball.

As a kid, the younger James found himself on national highlight reels from his youth basketball games. After playing one year of high school with Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California, James transferred to Sierra Canyon, a powerhouse prep school with a basketball roster that featured other elite-level talent.

At the end of his four-year high school career, James would be named a McDonald’s All-American and a member of the United States Nike Hoop Summit team, while earning a four-star ranking as a top thirty recruit for the next stage in his life, college.

Unfortunately for Bronny, his much-heralded arrival on the college scene with the USC Trojans would be put on the back burner as he suffered a cardiac arrest during a preseason practice that delayed his debut until December 10. Averaging just 4.8 (shooting 36%FG and 26% 3FG) 2.1 assists and 2.8 rebounds while starting six of twenty-five games,

Despite a less-than-spectacular freshman season, Bronny decided to test the waters of the NBA Draft and participated in the combine. While his measurements and game performance provided mixed results, Sparking interest from both the Phoenix Suns and the LA Lakers, Bronny made the decision to remain in the draft class rather than return to college for another season.

While many believe that Bronny is far from a lock for a first-round pick, his potential and lineage give some GMs hope that he will live up to the lofty standards set by his father, fans, and the media.

Yes Bronny has a strong basketball IQ and yes his defensive awareness is better than the average draft prospect, but his shooting consistency, next-level explosiveness, and athleticism remain in question. However the crux of the matter since day one: is James being fairly evaluated on his talent and ability to is it because of his last name? Is the pressure placed on Bronny by everyone around him to live up to the standard, or even a portion of it, that his father has set over the past two decades fair? No. And neither will the media circus that will undoubtedly follow him.

With Bronny James entering the draft, betting apps are buzzing with speculation about his landing spot. While the Lakers (picks 17 & 56) and Suns (pick 22) hold the cards, the odds are they’ll avoid a first-round pick with its guaranteed contract. The Lakers remain the betting favorite to use their late second-round pick (56th) on Bronny, but darkhorses like the rebuilding Atlanta Hawks or young Oklahoma City Thunder might offer a better environment for his development. The question remains: will Bronny be drafted for genuine need or become part of a marketing ploy, or even bait to lure his legendary father for a final championship run?

Regardless of where James ends up, the stories that will be told will create a moment that transcends the game itself. Blending legacy and potential, Bronny James’ NBA journey is going to be one of the most unique stories in history. For every parent who dreams that their child will follow in their footsteps, the James family will have the opportunity to share a moment together in front of thousands in attendance and millions on television, whether they wear the same or opposing uniforms that no other players in NBA history can claim.

5 Famous MLB Rivalries and Their Histories

5 Famous MLB Rivalries and Their Histories

Baseball, often hailed as America’s pastime, is steeped in a rich tradition and history that spans well over a century. Central to this history are intense rivalries that ignite passion in players and fans alike.

These rivalries are more than just annual matchups; they embody a deep-seated competition and a clash of cultures, showcasing the heart and soul of Major League Baseball. From historic battles to modern-day showdowns, the significance of these rivalries goes beyond the diamond, weaving into the very fabric of the sport.

Below, we will delve into the histories of five of the most famous MLB rivalries, exploring how they began, key moments that have defined them, and their impact on the legacy of baseball.

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees’ and Boston Red Sox’s rivalry is among the most storied in Major League Baseball history. Dating back over a century, it was ignited by the 1919 sale of Babe Ruth from the Red Sox to the Yankees, an event believed to have started the “Curse of the Bambino.”

While the Yankees have earned 27 World Series titles, the Red Sox broke their 86-year championship drought with a historic comeback in the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees. This intense rivalry is marked by fierce competition on the field and high-stakes drama off it, captivating fans and shaping the sport’s landscape.

Keeping an eye on the Baseball Game Odds can provide an insightful edge for those interested in predicting the outcomes of these thrilling matchups.

Whether played at Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park, games between the Yankees and Red Sox are major events, drawing extensive media coverage and immense fan interest. As each season unfolds, the rivalry continues to be a compelling aspect of baseball, exemplifying the spirit and excitement of the sport.

Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Another well-known MLB rivalry involves two teams from the East Coast, but the greatest one is in the heartland. The competition between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs extends beyond baseball.

This is a battle for supremacy between two cities separated by merely 300 miles. It’s often dubbed the Route 66 or I-55 rivalry, named after the highways that link them. Despite being in different states, with the Cubs based in Illinois and the Cardinals in Missouri, the most intense fan competition occurs in Illinois.

Most people support the Cubs (or White Sox) in northern Illinois, while southern Illinois leans towards the Cardinals. Many inhabitants of rural Illinois find themselves stuck in the middle of this rivalry, which reflects a broader competitive spirit between the two cities.

In the late 1800s, St. Louis was a prosperous port city on the Mississippi River and a crucial hub for westward trade, overshadowing Chicago. The city even inspired the Gateway Arch symbol. However, St. Louis made a critical error by dismissing railroads as a fad, betting instead on the perpetual importance of river trade.

Consequently, railroads were built through Chicago, leading to its rapid growth and economic dominance. By 1901, this shift was starkly highlighted when Chicago reversed the flow of the Chicago River to send its sewage down to St. Louis, further driving a wedge between the two cities.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants

The “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” in 1951 remains one of baseball’s most iconic moments, echoing the sport’s history. Clayton Kershaw’s impressive career 1.88 ERA against his team’s biggest rival continues haunting Bay Area fans.

The notorious 1965 altercation, in which Juan Marichal swung a bat at catcher Johnny Roseboro, underscores the fierce rivalry between these teams every time they meet.

The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers rivalry marks its 133rd season this week. The rivalry remains thrilling as the two teams prepare to face each other for the first time in 2022, following a historic 2021 NL West race and their first postseason meeting in the modern era.

The Giants achieved a franchise record with 107 wins in a single season, yet the Dodgers emerged victorious in the postseason. This continues a pattern: no other professional sports rivalry is as evenly matched as this one.

New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies

The rivalry between the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies is among the most engaging in Major League Baseball history. Stemming from their geographical and divisional proximity, this competition has delivered many unforgettable moments since the Mets joined the National League in 1962.

Both teams have had their dominant periods, intensifying the rivalry. Key highlights include the dramatic games of the 1980s and the high-stakes clashes of the late 2000s. Notably, in 2007 and 2008, the Mets’ collapses allowed the Phillies to capture the National League East title, heightening the tension.

The rivalry is further amplified by passionate fans whose fervent support creates a playoff-like atmosphere during regular-season games.

Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians

The rivalry between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians, formerly the Cleveland Indians, is a storied and intense matchup in MLB history. Originating in the early 20th century, this rivalry has been marked by countless memorable moments and legendary players.

The rivalry has only intensified over time, from the early competitive play to heated encounters in the 1940s and 1950s featuring pitchers like Bob Feller and Hal Newhouser.

The 1990s saw another surge, with players like Kenny Lofton and Albert Belle for Cleveland and Travis Fryman and Cecil Fielder for Detroit. The 2007 tie-breaker game was a recent highlight, epitomizing the enduring competitive spirit between the two teams.

Conclusion

These five famous MLB rivalries illustrate the rich tapestry of competition that has shaped Major League Baseball. Each rivalry carries its unique history, characterized by monumental moments, legendary players, and passionate fan bases that elevate the sport to a theatrical level.

Will Jofra Archer Be England’s Secret Weapon at the T20 World Cup?

Will Jofra Archer Be England's Secret Weapon at the T20 World Cup?

Fast bowler Jofra Archer was recently selected for England’s provisional squad for the upcoming 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to run from June 1 until 29.

England are currently the third odds-on favourite to win the competition outright, behind Australia, the second odds-on favourite, and India, the odds-on favourites, meaning England have a good chance of winning.

With their 29-year-old secret weapon, Archer, they could very well come out on top this year.

Here is a closer look at why Jofra Archer’s return from injury and inclusion in the squad is a massive boost for the England national cricket team.

Who is Jofra Archer?

Jofra Archer is a 29-year-old men’s professional cricketer who was born in Bridgetown, Barbados, in April 1995 but holds British citizenship through his father.

The right-handed batter and right-arm fast bowler has played on and off for the England men’s national side since making his debut against Australia in August 2019. Throughout his career, he has achieved the following statistics:

  • Played: 13 Test Cricket matches. Balls bowled: 2,609. Bowling average: 31.04. Best bowling: 6/45
  • Played: 21 One Day Internationals (ODIs). Balls bowled: 1,139. Bowling average: 21.73. Best bowling: 6/40
  • Played: 16 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Balls bowled: 372. Bowling average: 24.66. Best bowling: 4/33
  • Played: 43 First-Class cricket matches. Balls bowled: 8,856. Bowling average: 24.91. Best bowling: 7/67

In 2019, he was part of the team that won the ICC Cricket World Cup, and at the domestic level, he has played for Sussex (2016-present), the Khulna Titans (2017), the Hobart Hurricanes (2017/8, and 2018/19), the Rajasthan Royals (2018 – 2021), MI Cape Town (2022/23), and the Mumbai Indians (2023).

Injuries throughout his career have plagued Archer, significantly reducing the number of games he should have played for club and country. His major recurring injury is ongoing issues with his right elbow, for which he has undergone two operations.

He’s now back from his latest issue and will be looking to help take England all the way. The other two England bowlers England can choose from should Archer’s injury return during the world cup are Reece Topley and Mark Wood.

However, these two are also prone to recurring injuries.

If all three can stay in top shape and have a bit of luck on their side, there’s a good chance that England will win. Most experts and fans agree that Archer’s inclusion will strengthen the squad as he is a multi-phase bowler.

Some of his talents include his ability to catch the batters off guard by bowling yorkers, and he can quickly adjust to bowling fast with the new ball, delivering lightning-fast bowls during an innings for just one or two overs if required.

Can England win the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup if Jofra Archer can remain injury-free?

The quickest, easiest, and most accurate way to find out if England can win the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held for the first time at venues across the United States and the West Indies, would be to check ENG vs IND match odds on India’s most trusted online bookmaker.

The official 10cricbet site is known for having some of the iGaming industry’s most competitive cricket betting odds, and the betting markets for the upcoming world cup are already open. You will also soon be able to place live bets (aka in-play bets) as the tournament matches unfold.

Here are the latest odds for the top five favourites. These odds are displayed in all three formats (decimal, fractional, and American/moneyline odds), along with the IPR (implied probability rate) of each team winning the tournament outright:

  • Betting market: To win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 outright. Team: India (odds-on favourites). Decimal odds: 3.60. Fractional odds: 13/5. American/moneyline odds: +260. Implied probability rate (IPR): 27.80%

In other words, it’s looking fairly close between the top three favourites. Twenty teams are competing, and the two least favourites to win this year are Canada and Uganda.

Also competing are the United States, the West Indies, Papua New Guinea, Nepal, Scotland, Namibia, the Netherlands, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

When does the tournament start?

The opening game of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup will be on Sunday, June 2, when host nation the United States play Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.

The second game of the tournament is the following day, June 3, when the joint-host nation (the West Indies) play Papua New Guinea at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

England’s first game is against Scotland on Wednesday, June 5, at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. England and Scotland are both in Group B with Australia, Namibia, and Oman.

Final thoughts

England may have Jofra Archer as their secret weapon, but he won’t be the tournament’s only secret weapon. For example, India has Virat Kohli. Pakistan has Babar Azam. Afghanistan have Rashid Khan, and the West Indies have Andre Russell.

There’s also Adam Zampa for Australia, Finn Allen for New Zealand, Wanindu Hasaranga for Sri Lanka, Gerald Coetzee for South Africa, and Shakib Al Hasan.

That’s not forgetting several other key players who will also be worth keeping an eye on throughout the tournament, such as Jos Butler (England), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan), and Jasprit Bumrah (India).

If you decide to place a wager on the upcoming world cup, only do so on fully licensed and regulated Indian online sports betting sites like 10cricbet. To ensure you don’t exceed your initial budget, start by setting a reasonable one before depositing.
