Joshua Bassett has found himself in hot waters after getting baptized by a controversial church.
The singer came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, and since then, he got massive support from the community, his fans, and his followers.
He recently got baptized at Bethel Church in California and shared his experience on Twitter. While many were happy that he was embracing Christianity, the members of the LGBTQ+ community called him out.
This was because Bethel Church was known for its controversial takes on the LGBTQ+ community and supported conversion therapy.
Joshua Bassett got baptized
On February 13, 2023, a video of Bassett getting baptized went viral on Twitter. In the chip, Bassett gave a short speech about embarrassing Christianity.
He said, “My name’s Joshua, and long story short, I grew up Christian, and ran the other way as far as I could go in search of truth.” He claimed that because he did not embrace Christianity, he ended up with depression, an eating disorder, and suicidal ideation, among others.
“And no other teacher gave me anywhere near the peace that Jesus Christ did,” he continued. He ended his speech with the statement, “I’m here to publicly declare him as my lord and savior.”
Soon, people started calling him out for getting baptized at Bethel Church. According to Out, the church is run by billionaire pastors who are pro-Trump and anti-LGBTQ+, and it is unequivocal about its position on the LGBTQ+ community.
Bethel Church has a whole page dedicated to its thoughts on Biblical Sexuality on its website. The page discusses how God created humans, male and female, and how the two genders do not act separately but as complementary elements of a whole.
It states that a marriage between one man and one woman is how God made the world and how humans should live and that anything else is a sin that will lead to society’s demise.

There is another segment titled “Freedom with Jesus,” in which the church discusses its support for the disproved and brutal technique known as conversion therapy. Here, those who identify as a member of LGBTQ+ are coached by religious authorities to identify as straight or cisgender in this sort of counseling.
The section reads, “Some people experience same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria, including some in our church community—not because they were ‘born that way,’ but because they were born human into a fallen world, and because society has disrupted and confused how we teach children who they are.”
“It is possible to move into and out of LGBTQ identifications, and therefore freedom and access to resources should be protected, even if that outcome is to never again identify as LGBTQ,” it continues.
Joshua Bassett’s defense
Bassett took to Twitter to defend himself. He claimed that he visited the church and “happened to get baptized here.”
He claimed that he was unaware of the beliefs of the Bethel Church and its politics. He wrote that he did not endorse them and that his heart was “for Christ and Christ alone!”
In another tweet, he condemned gay conversion therapy. He said that hate and fear have no place in him. He wrote how he was drawn to Christ because it was an “invitation of love.”
He wrote, “safety and sanctuary only! come as you are!!!” Regardless of all, Bassett was still condemned for getting baptized at such a church.

On May 19, 2022, she shared a photo of herself with the actor on Instagram, expressing her opinion on the high-profile legal battle he was embroiled in with his former wife Amber Heard.
In the caption, the actress voiced her belief in Depp’s eventual triumph, asserting, “I have no doubt that Johnny will emerge with his good name and wonderful heart revealed to the world, and life will be better than it has ever been for him and his family.”
Additionally, she spoke to Vanity Fair on March 29, 2023, reaffirming her support for the actor. Addressing the reasons behind her decision to publicly stand by Depp, Green explained, “It was boiling over too much and for too long. Everyone was afraid of getting wet. He is a kind and pure actor, as anyone can confirm who worked with him.”
Despite the support from Green, not everyone shares the same sentiment, as evidenced by a fan’s comment.
A fan commented, “Me, rewriting this headline for myself: Very happy to not support or see Eva Green in anything; I stay away from vile people I dislike.”
Nonetheless, Depp and Heard reached an agreement by the end of 2022. On June 1, the jury unanimously found that Heard defamed Depp, awarding him $5 million in punitive damages and $10 million in compensatory damages.
The jury also awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages in her counterclaim but nothing in punitive damages.
However, in December 2023, the former couple came to an arrangement, with Heard giving the Pirates of the Caribbean star $1 million.

Joel Kinnaman’s Tattoos — ‘The Killing’ Star Still Regrets Getting Tattooed by Will Smith
Joel Kinnaman has several intriguing tattoos.
Joel Kinnaman, the Swedish actor best known for his role in Suicide Squad, first got his tattoo at the age of 17.
The revelation came to light when Kinnaman took to Facebook, sharing a photo of himself getting inked on his left arm.
On August 16, 2016, he wrote, “When I was 17 I got my first tattoo. I decided on a tribal because that’s obviously never gonna go out of style.”

Similarly, throughout the years, he has inked several tattoos on several body parts with meaningful and aesthetically pleasing designs.
Among his collection is a tattoo featuring a house with several buildings in the background, placed on his right upper arm with a paragraph or verse just above it. Unfortunately, no clear photo of this text has surfaced.
Will Smith tattooed ‘SKWAD’ on Joel Kinnaman’s biceps
In 2015, Will Smith tattooed the word “SKWAD” onto Kinnaman’s bicep just below the tribal tattoo but later revealed he regretted letting Smith give him a tattoo.
He posted a photo, which has now been deleted, of the process on Instagram, where Smith proudly showed his amateur inking skills and wrote, “Got my #skwad tattoo.”
Kinnaman, however, didn’t seem entirely thrilled with the result, further adding, “Will has many many talents, tattooing is not one of them. It was like watching a drunk baby fly a helicopter. #suicidesquad #willsmith #harleystattooparlour.”

Additionally, during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, Kinnaman faced a direct question from a viewer about any regrets regarding Smith’s tattoo.
Without hesitation, Kinnaman candidly confessed to the interviewer, stating, “The answer is yes. Absolutely. That was a horrible idea.”
He humorously cautioned against letting a 47-year-old man, especially one without reading glasses, wield a tattoo needle on one’s skin, saying, “You know, don’t let a 47-year-old man without his reading glasses tattoo you.”
Joel Kinnaman’s former wife is also a tattoo artist
In April 2016, Kinnaman unexpectedly revealed that he had tied the knot with his tattoo artist girlfriend, Cleo Wattenstrom, during an appearance on The Talk via People.
The actor was fast to correct co-host Aisha Tyler when she inquired about his “girlfriend’s” opinion of his Suicide Squad tattoo. He said, “My wife, my wife.”
Despite the exact details of their wedding remaining undisclosed, Kinnaman couldn’t resist sharing a lighthearted anecdote about his wife’s reaction to his Suicide Squad tattoo.
He revealed that Wattenstrom laughed at the tattoo, saying, “She was laughing at it. A lot of tattoo artists are not so precious about their tattoos.”
Kinnaman and Wattenstrom had started dating in 2014, and their low-profile romance managed to stay mostly out of the public eye.
However, after two years of what seemed like a blissful marriage, reports surfaced about their separation. Despite the challenges that led to their decision to part ways, sources insisted that the two remained on amicable terms and continued to maintain a friendship.
