Who Are Pat Cummins’ Parents? Meet His Siblings and Family

Australian international cricketer Patrick James Cummins also known as Pat Cummins, leads the Australian cricket team in Test and ODI matches.

He is a fast bowler who bats right-handed and currently plays for New South Wales domestically.

At the age of 18, Pat made his Test debut in 2011. After that, injuries kept him from playing international cricket until 2015 and Test cricket till 2017.

After the 2019 cricket season ended, the cricketer received the ICC Test Player of the Year award and the Allan Border Medal for the finest Australian cricketer of the year.

According to the ICC test bowling rankings as of May 2022, he is rated as the number one bowler in the entire globe.

Regarding his family, he has loving parents who have supported him through good and bad, and his siblings are very proud of him.

Pat Cummins’ family background explored

Pat was born to his parents, Peter Cummins and Maria Cummins, on May 8, 1993, in Westmead, New South Wales, Australia.

Since there isn’t much information online regarding his parents, his Instagram is the primary source of information.

On September 1, 2015, the 29-year-old cricketer shared a picture of his mother and his siblings and showed gratitude toward them for being available to cheer him for the T20.

Speaking of his mother, Maria battled breast cancer in 2005 and hid her diagnosis from her kids. “I’m not going to be my normal self for the next little while,” she told Pat.

According to AthletesVoice, Pat noted that his father, Peter, served as both a mother and a father for a while, and his close relatives stepped in to help the family during the dark days.

After mentioning that his mother underwent six months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment and successfully overcame cancer, he continued that cancer has the propensity to return even after remission.

Pat mentioned, “There are all the check-ups and the tests and that means the thought of it is always lurking somewhere.”

He wasn’t entirely aware of the emotional toll that playing his first Test at home would take on him. He was affected in several ways, but none more personally than on Jane McGrath Day.

The cricket player added, “Mum has always been an incredibly strong person. But day three of the Sydney Test this year was a bit too much for her. It was all quite overwhelming.”

Maria became rather emotional as she watched her son play on a day honoring Jane McGrath, the McGrath Foundation, and the battle against breast cancer.

Pat Cummins has four siblings

Pat is not his parents’ sole kid; he has four siblings, two brothers and two sisters, making four total.

His brothers’ names are Tim Cummins and Matt Cummins, and his sisters’ names are Laura Cummins and Kara Cummins.

On November 20, 2022, via Instagram, Pat admitted that he loved playing cricket as a child and that playing with his elder brothers after school and competitively on the weekends significantly impacted his development.

He wrote, “Playing with my older brothers after school and competitively on the weekends had a huge influence on my development; from building self-esteem, to working in teams, to breaking down social barriers.”

In an exclusive interview with Cricket Australia in 2011, just before making his debut in South Africa, Pat recounted a tale.

“I lost the top of my finger when I was about three or four,” the New South Wales cricketer recalled. He went on to say that his finger was rammed into a door and that his finger’s top was knocked off by around a centimeter.

The Australian native clarified that since the finger is around the same length as the other, he was unaffected by it. He then added, “I still get my sister in tears … (because) she slammed the door on it.”

Even though the middle finger on a paceman’s bowling hand is essential, especially when trying to generate an out-swing, it is apparent that the shorter finger has not impacted Pat’s abilities as a cricket player.

Iyer’s father, Santosh, is a businessman. Santosh is a huge cricket lover and played cricket till college but did not pursue it any further.

“I used to play cricket till the college level. Maybe I was not as focused as Shreyas was. So I did not pursue cricket much. But then I wanted to pass on that to my son. I saw that talent in Shreyas and thus wanted him to pursue his career in cricket,” Santosh said about his son, as per Sports Craazy.

Santosh didn’t waste time after learning about his son’s passion for cricket and sent him to the premier cricket academy in Mumbai. Knowing that his school couldn’t provide many options, he even forced him to transfer to a better school to play competitive cricket.
