‘Gilmore Girls’ Star David Sutcliffe Slammed for His Views on Women’s Voting Rights
David Sutcliffe’s stance on women’s voting rights disappointed many of his fans.
Canadian actor David Sutcliffe recently received backlash for expressing controversial views on women’s voting rights.
In a recent episode of his podcast The Psychosphere, the host asked Sutcliffe about having thoughts he wanted to share but was afraid of judgment.
The actor controversially stated that he believes women should not have the right to vote because, in his opinion, they are not interested in facing certain harsh realities, like the primal brutality of nature.
Upon hearing the actor’s initial statement, the host sought clarification by asking which specific aspect of life the actor was referring to.
In response, the actor explained that he was talking about the harsh brutality of primal nature, asserting that it’s typically men who are interested in watching videos of lions hunting and attacking prey, as they are more inclined to confront these brutal aspects of life.
The host, wanting further clarity, then asked if Sutcliffe was making a generalization about all women or if he meant the majority, to which the actor affirmed that he was referring to the majority of women.
Following the podcast, a social media user initiated a thread on Reddit by sharing a clip where the actor voiced his opinion that women should not vote during a new episode of his podcast. As the thread gained momentum, numerous fans and followers weighed in on the matter.

One commenter expressed frustration, saying, “Why do men like this revert our species to primal animals? He just explained why women SHOULD be in charge. His brain only operates in one region of human thought and has yet to evolve. Incredibly telling.”
Similarly, another individual expressed their opinion, saying, “And he said it on his podcast, so there’s no excuse, no possibility of bad editing, and no basis for explaining away this opinion when he inevitably faces backlash for it. What an idiot.”
Additionally, an individual humorously remarked, “I really thought he was just kidding at first, and then he launched into the men are better because they watch nature videos,’ and he was dead serious. Oh my god.”
Amid the backlash, one social media user humorously stated in the comments section, “Completely understandable given the fact that women were only invented like last week. We don’t know ‘primal’ anything; we were man-made.”
Some individuals can also relate to the podcast. One person expressed feeling alarmed by the increasing prevalence of these viewpoints. She has observed her friends’ husbands and boyfriends echoing these talking points as well. She firmly believes it’s a red flag but finds it challenging to voice her concerns.
Beyond Reddit, many people who listened to the podcast went on Twitter to share how upset they were over Sutcliffe’s stance on women’s voting rights.
On December 14, 2023, a person shared a clip from the podcast on Twitter and wrote, “David Sutcliffe, also known as Christopher “Lor” Hayden on #gilmoregirls, has been giving off bad vibes since 2001.”
Moreover, another person couldn’t believe what they heard, saying, “Wow! Just wow! Can’t believe he believes this!!” with an angry face emoji.
Although Sutcliffe has faced numerous criticisms for his views on women’s voting rights, he has chosen to remain silent on the matter, refraining from offering any public response or clarification.

His wife, Nathalie, confirmed the news of his death at the age of 40 as she wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). Her message read, “Two days ago, on June 8th, my husband, Ben Potter, passed away in an unfortunate accident.”

I ask that you respect my privacy as well as everyone else’s. Right now my priority is preserving everything he’s built and I don’t have any plans beyond that.”
On YouTube, Potter mostly created audio dramas of comic books on his Comicstorian account, regularly discussing the Marvel and DC Universes. He shared his last upload, titled “Why DC’s Reboots Beat Marvel,” just a day before his death.
