The diva who flaunts 90’s fashion as it’d never gone, Madison Martina’s love for fashion and modeling started when she was a little girl. Today, she is a famed fashion and swimsuit model, influencer, and blogger.
The Orlando native, in her early 20s, might still be young but holds a plethora of modeling experiences, having collaborated with fashion giants like Chanel, Guess, and TooFaced Cosmetics. But, it does not end there, as she sits right on top when it comes to influencing aspiring models through social media.
Martina treats her Instagram family of over 211,000 followers with regular fashion updates that include recent trends and ideas inspired from the 90’s. Just last month, on August 16, the University of Central Florida alum made a fashion statement when she dropped a couple of snaps spotting Jaded London’s ‘Spacedye Knit Crop Top with Matching Sleeves.’
In an exclusive interview with Glamour Buff, Martina talks about her humble beginning, supportive parents, and everything in between, including why she believes the 90’s inspired fashion is a big trend for the fall.
Yes, everything eventually comes back and a lot of fun 90’s fashion trends are coming back– Bucket hats, forearm/hand covers, velvet and velour!
You began modeling at an early age. How did that influence your love for fashion and modeling? When did it begin?
I began modeling at the age of 12 in Orlando, FL, and it was something I really enjoyed because it gave me access to meeting new people and working with all kinds of stylish fashion trends. Getting that early start in the fashion modeling world helped lay my foundation for loving and having a true passion for fashion and modeling.
What was your first modeling stint?
My first modeling gig was for a TV show called The Daily Buzz, and I was a fashion model highlighting different clothes and outfits…I was 10 years old and have loved fashion and modeling ever since!
Any memories from that first event? We would love to know that.
I just remember being a part of a show and wearing fun, new outfits was something that brought me joy, and I knew I could see myself doing this for the long term as a career if I was granted the opportunity.
Well, dreaming about getting into the fashion world might have come easy, but how did your parents, family think about that? Were they supportive?
My mom has always been so supportive and guided me on my modeling career journey since I was a little girl. She is my world and is the most amazing person I know.
Growing up watching her manage raising myself and my five siblings is something I will always appreciate and be grateful for. My mom is my biggest inspiration and without her, I am not sure where or who I would be. I have been lucky that she has always been so loving and supportive. My mom has the biggest heart and sweetest soul and that has been a guiding force throughout my entire fashion career.
The fashion industry is quite competitive and my mom has always been there for me through the ups and downs and has encouraged me every step of the way. I believe that having a solid support system is essential to making it in this industry. Everyone on my team calls her my momager and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You have built a solid career for yourself, with numerous fashion shows, sponsors, events, thousands of Instagram followers, and all. Are you consciously looking to inspire younger generations?
Being a role model seems like a lot of pressure as I am a human being that is constantly learning new things about myself, life and the fashion world, but if I can help provide some positive inspiration for other younger models looking to pursue this as a career, that is awesome. Hard work, passion, dedication and commitment are aspects of my fashion modeling career that I hope little girls and boys will hopefully gather from my career.
In one of your Instagram posts, we also spotted you wearing hand/forearm covers by Jaded London. Can you talk about that?
Jaded London is a great brand that I have been fortunate enough to work with and they have a lot of fun, American 90’s themed styles that are becoming trendy again. I absolutely love the matching set I wore with the hard/forearms colors and would encourage everyone to check them out online.
Do you believe the 90’s inspired fashion is a big trend for the fall?
Yes, everything eventually comes back and a lot of fun 90’s fashion trends are coming back– Bucket hats, forearm/hand covers, velvet and velour! Fashion is supposed to be fun and inspiring so I encourage everyone to partake in it!
Any suggestions for aspiring fashion models?
My biggest advice for other models entering the fashion industry is to network a bunch, never give up, have faith and strong confidence in yourself and trust the process. Listen to your gut! It won’t be easy and you will face rejection many times– It’s just a part of the business that you’re in and it’s important to acknowledge and accept that early on. I want everyone to know that just about everyone starts at the bottom and with hard work and persistence, can achieve their goals.
I also believe it’s important to have people around you that are lifting you up, encouraging you, and protecting you at all times. Building a loyal, trustworthy, and hard-working team that encompasses the same positive mindset and morals is really a big key to succeeding in the fashion and influencer arenas. I got lucky because of the support I get from my family. It can be really hard finding the right people, but just know they are out there.
