Khaled Hosseini’s Family — He Has a Transgender Daughter

Khaled Hosseini is an Afghan-American author, UNHCR goodwill ambassador, and former physician.
His debut novel, The Kite Runner (2003), was a critical and financial success; all of his following works are at least largely set in Afghanistan and feature an Afghan protagonist and their family.
Like the protagonists of his novels, Khaled loves his family a lot. He accepts them for who they are and is the biggest cheerleader of his children.
In fact, when his son came out as a transgender woman, he considered her to be his daughter and shared the news with his fans and followers on social media, gushing about how proud he was.

Khaled Hosseini’s transgender daughter
A transgender woman is a person who was assigned male at birth. Transgender women have a feminine gender identity and may experience gender dysphoria, distress caused by the difference between a person’s gender identity and the sex assigned at birth.
Khaled took to Twitter in July 2022 to reveal that his now-daughter, who was born as his son, Haris Hosseini, came out as transgender. He posted a photo of his daughter and wrote, “Yesterday, my daughter Haris came out as transgender.”
He gushed about how proud he was of her and understood that talking about her journey as a transgender woman was a difficult topic for her. He wrote, “I’ve never been prouder of her. She has taught our family so much about bravery and truth. I know this process was painful for her. She is sober to the cruelty trans people are subjected to. But she is strong and undaunted.”

He then posted a photo with Haris as a child and wrote, “I love my daughter. She is beautiful, wise, brilliant. I will be by her side every step of the way. Our family stands behind her.”
Khaled and his family were lauded for standing beside his daughter. Many of them commented on the tweet.
One of them said, “Respect for her and your family. We, too, stand by her,” and another replied, “Does bring to mind one of my fav lines from your book ‘She is the noor of my eyes and the sultan of my heart.’ You are both blessed to have each other.”
“What a good, wise, and loving father you are. If all children had such parents, we wouldn’t see a tenth of the troubles in the world,” one Twitter user wrote. A netizen could relate to Khaled and his family and commented, “What a beautiful message of support and love. As a parent to a trans son, I am grateful that you shared your pride on this platform.”
Khaled also shared Haris coming out as transgender on his Instagram and gushed about his daughter in a lengthy caption. He wrote how his 21-year-old came out as transgender a year before the news.
He wrote, “I have known about Haris’ journey since last year and I’ve watched her navigate some very trying personal times. Transitioning is such a complicated undertaking—emotionally, physically, socially, psychologically — but Haris has met each challenge with grace, patience, and wisdom.”
He then appreciated his daughter and claimed how proud he was of her. “As a father, I have never been prouder of her. I am delighted to now have not one but two beautiful daughters,” he added.
He confessed that he was inspired by Haris and her courage. He noted that she taught their family a lot about bravery and speaking their truth.
“She has taught me and our family so much about bravery, about truth. About what it means to live authentically. I know this process was painful for her, fraught with grief and anxiety,” he pointed out.
In the end, he added how much he loved his daughter and promised to be by her side no matter what. “I love my daughter. I will be by her side every step of the way, as will our family. We stand behind her. It’s a privilege to watch her enter the world as the beautiful, wise, and brilliant woman that she is. May God bless her,” he wrote at the end of his lengthy caption.
All in all, Khaled and his family were appreciated for supporting his transgender daughter and cheering on her during one of the most difficult journeys of her life.
Khaled Hosseini’s family
Khaled’s family comprises his wife and children. He has been married to his wife, Roya Hosseini, since 1993.
In October 2018, the duo celebrated their 25 years of being married. The author shared a photo of the couple on Facebook and Instagram and wrote, “How lucky am I? 25 years married to the most wonderful woman on the planet. Happy anniversary to my darling Roya. Thank you for all of it.”

Roya is a co-founder of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991 and earned her law degree from Southwestern University School of Law, Cum laude in 1997.
From 1999 until 2006, she was a venture capital financing attorney at Fenwick & West, LLP and Intel Corp. She is currently supporting the foundation’s goal to provide Afghanistan’s vulnerable groups — women, children, and refugees — by providing them with shelter and access to education.
Khaled and Roya have two children, Haris and Farah Hosseini. According to Farah’s Instagram, she is currently studying acting at the University of Southern California.
Not much is known about Haris and what she is doing. Khaled currently lives in Northern California with his family.
Khaled Hosseini’s biography
Khaled was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965. His father worked as a diplomat in the Afghan Foreign Ministry, while his mother taught Farsi and history at Kabul’s high school. In 1976, the Foreign Ministry sent the Hosseini family to Paris.
They were prepared to return to Kabul in 1980, but their nation had already experienced a brutal communist takeover and the Soviet Army’s invasion. His family applied for and was given political asylum in the United States before relocating to San Jose, California, in September 1980.
Khaled graduated from high school in 1984 and attended Santa Clara University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1988. The next year, he enrolled in the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, where he graduated in 1993.
He did his residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and practiced as an internist from 1996 until 2004. While practicing medicine in March 2001, Khaled began writing The Kite Runner, his debut novel. Published by Riverhead Books in 2003, that début became an international success and treasured classic, selling in at least 70 countries and spending more than a hundred weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.
In May 2007, his second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, arrived at number one on the New York Times bestseller list, where it remained for fifteen weeks, nearly a year. The two volumes have collectively sold over 10 million copies in the United States and over 38 million copies globally. The Kite Runner was made as a graphic book with the same title in 2011. Hosseini’s highly anticipated third novel, And the Mountains Echoed, was released on May 21, 2013.
Khaled was appointed Goodwill Envoy to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in 2006. Inspired by a journey to Afghanistan with the UNHCR, he later founded The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that offers humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.

The singer’s music video for ‘She’s Come a Long Way’ features several strong women.
Britnee Kellogg is a talented country music singer who gained fame due to her appearance in seasons 11 and 12 of American Idol. Recently, she released the music video for ‘She’s Come a Long Way,’ which not only has good music but also good lyrics and a powerful message.
She premiered the music exclusively through People’s magazine and the music video included powerful women from her home state of Oregon who have made their way through extreme challenges.
Kellogg collaborated with Autumn McEntire on this song, who ironically turned out to be the niece of the person she idolizes the most. In a recent interview with People, she mentioned, “Reba McEntire is the love of my life. She’s the first cassette tape I ever owned. She has always been a huge inspiration for me musically.”
It was like fate that she met Autumn a few years back and got to work with her. “When I first met her several years ago, I knew her last name was McEntire, but that’s kind of a common last name,” says Kellogg.
She continues the conversation by saying, “I guess I never asked her until she posted something about having a cut on her aunt’s record and I was like, ‘Excuse me, you never told me this?!’ It made me respect her even more that she doesn’t go around bragging that she’s Reba’s niece. I think that says a lot about her character.”

The music video for ‘She’s Come a Long Way’ started with a woman introducing herself as 44-year-old Alexis, who is currently a senior director of Accounting. She also revealed that she’s a mother of 5 children and a breast cancer survivor.
The video then went on to introduce other powerful women, like 30-year-old Erica, a nurse who is in high demand. Then, Nikki was introduced, a 49-year-old layout engineer who survived a life-changing injury.

Other women included were 26-year-old business advisor and artist Kayla and 46-year-old Midwife Megan, who has delivered 500+ babies and has been clean and sober for 17 years. Next came Lisa, who is a special education teacher and a teen mother, followed by 37-year-old Mikeisha, who is a personal shopper, boutique owner, healthcare leader, and a wife and a mother.
The video also included 52-year-old Tracie, who is a property manager, and Slumberkins founders Kelly and Callie. The last person to be introduced was Angela, the co-founder of I Am Foster Kid.
Kellogg created this music video to honor how they’ve come a long way and still have much to do. She wanted to leave a very powerful message so that every woman is inspired by what they are doing.

Since the song was released on YouTube, it has garnered more than 5k views in a week, with 500+ likes. Although the video has not garnered many comments on the platform, her Instagram post is filled with congratulatory posts and positive reviews.
On March 28, Kellogg posted a video reacting to the People’s cover of her new music video, captioning it with “Thank you @people and @triciadespres for highlighting this song and these amazing women”
Under this post, there were many fan comments, where one commented, “CONGRATULATIONS! 🥹 call such a beautiful tribute!! Forever so proud of you! The wrestler nonchalantly commented, “Well, I wouldn’t wrestle while I was pregnant because you’ll end up killing the poor thing.” In a lighter tone, they quipped about whether anyone had ever wrestled while pregnant, suggesting it might have happened accidentally.
“One day I would like little me’s little body Matthews running around. They’re going to annoy the crap out of me but I’m gonna get everything I dished out as a kid,” Ripley continues.
She was then asked if she wanted her kids to be legacy wrestlers, to which she replied “Umm, yes and no. I don’t know I feel like I would love that just to keep the name going and have that massive family line in hopefully WWE. At the same time, I also know what goes into this profession how hard it is, and how taxing it is on your body and your mind and I don’t know if I want that for my kids or not. Like I do but I don’t. It’s so amazing on the other side of things but it also takes a lot outta you. But I guess we’ll see down the line.”

Paul posed a question, inquiring, “You’re a prominent figure in the industry, which could potentially challenge some men’s egos if their partner achieves greater success. Does he find it difficult to cope with? Is it motivating for him? Does he embrace it?”
To this, the wrestler replied, “He loves it. He doesn’t make him feel a certain negative sort of way. He’s happy for me and he also knows how far I can go in this company and how far his limitations are as well.”

While discussing it, she also discussed the reality of wrestling being male-dominated and acknowledged the limited opportunities for women in the sport. “So if you show you’re different and connect with the crowd in a certain way, you’re gonna skyrocket to the top,” she says.
Ripley then talked about her husband, stating, “Whereas for him, he has been in the WWE, he’s been wrestling for over 10 years, maybe 15 years… for a long long time. At the end of the day, the platform that I’m on is higher and I feel like he doesn’t get threatened by that.”
The wrestler also said that her fiancée reassures her that he doesn’t get threatened by her popularity and she trusts him. She also reveals that he helps her grow along the way and it is what a relationship should be like.
Who is Rhea Ripley’s fiancée, Matthew Adams?
Adams goes by his ring name, Buddy Matthews, and is a professional wrestler currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He was previously in WWE as Buddy Murphy and assigned to developmental territory NXT.
He made his debut in AEW on the February 23, 2022, episode of Dynamite alongside Malakai Black and Brody King of the House of Black. Following his impactful debut, AEW president Tony Khan announced his signing with the company.
Some of his notable victories include winning a trios match at Revolution’s buy-in-show against Death Triangle on March 5, 2023, defeating The Elite. However, they experienced defeat in August 2023 against The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn.
