Rufus Sewell will soon be on television with Kaleidoscope. The actor is famous for playing roles in ancient legends such as Charles II in Charles II: The Power and The Passion also as Hotspur in Henry IV, Part 1 in 1995, Fortinbras in Hamlet, and the title role in Macbeth.

Sewell, Laurence Olivier Award winner for the best actor in a play in the film Rock’ n’ Roll, has also been a great father to his children.

He is the father of two kids, William Douglas Sewell, aka Billy, born in 2002, and his daughter, Lola, born in 2013.

Both of his children are from different mothers; hence, they may not be forever with him, but he still balances his life for his kids.

Rufus Sewell is a loving father to his children

Sewell’s first marriage was to Australian fashion journalist and his long-time girlfriend Yasmin Abdallah in 1999. Still, the couple divorced less than a year later and did not have children together.

Then he married producer and scriptwriter Amy Gardner, who gave birth to his son, Billy. Later they, too, got divorced. And his daughter Lola is from his girlfriend, Ani Komai, the founder of the girls’ magazine Bright Lite.

Speaking to The Telegraph on November 5, 2003, he opened his deep personal happiness with his then one-year-old son and wife, Gardner being there for him.

“Having Amy and Billy there was the main reason I felt so at ease,” he said.

“They would come and have lunch with me every day and I would go home to them at night. I guess it was a bit like having a regular job in that it felt very stable.”

Further, he appreciated the feeling of being a father. He said that being a father is just lovely. He adores his son as a funny, cheeky, beautiful boy and loves being with him.

“Parenthood is terrifying, though. I can barely walk past a building without panicking that it’s going to collapse on his head,” he said.

He has also expressed gratitude for being a dad to his son with The Guardian. “I did realize I wanted to be around for [Billy] more and be a good dad. I love it,” he said.

Fifty-five years old actor is very affectionate toward his daughter too. During the lockdown period during the COVID pandemic, Lola had to split her time between her parent’s homes.

Talking to Helen Brown in an interview with The Telegraph, he said, “[He was] either looking forward to having a day off or looking forward to having her[Lola] back.”

In one of the art shows, he admitted his daughter was most important to him, and he would not have taken that show if his young daughter had not been able to join him in London for Christmas.

“I couldn’t have taken the job if that hadn’t happened,” he told the BBC on December 2016, “It’s the most important thing for me.”

Earlier in October 2017, the Hamlet actor had shown a sweet gesture by sharing a tweet of an image of a recent school project completed by his young daughter with the caption, “Just re-discovered this. From my daughter’s school project earlier this year. She was three.”

This shows an immense love of a father for his children. He has managed to express his love towards both of his children. Among all these things, he also recollects the memories of his childhood.

Being a father makes him remember his father

Spending time with his son makes the Darkside actor remember his father. While asking about that, he said to The Telegraph, “Sometimes it does. But it was such a long time ago. Of course, it’s sad that he won’t see Billy grow up, but then he didn’t see me grow up either.”

Sewell had a difficult childhood. His father, William John Frederick Sewell, an animator and former builder’s laborer died when he was 10. His parents divorced when he was 5, and his mother worked in a pub as a waitress and sold vegetables to support him and his brother single-handedly.

No doubt, the 55-year-old actor is a great parent to his children, and also he often misses his parents and remembers his childhood in the phase of raising Billy, who is 20 years old, and Lola, who is nine years old now.
