David Harbour is an actor who is arguably best recognized now for his role as Jim Hopper in the massively successful Netflix series Stranger Things.

Born on April 10, 1975, Harbour is 48 years old. He was born in White Plains, New York, to real estate professionals Kenneth and Nancy, where his mother worked in residential, and his father worked in commercial.

Along with actors Sean Maher and Eyal Podell, he attended Byram Hills High School in Armonk, New York. He received his bachelor’s degree in theatre and Italian from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, in 1997, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Harbour is amongst the tallest actors in the Hollywood industry. There have been various speculations about his height.

Many claim that his height is 6’2” and IMDb has reported his height to be 6’ 2¾” or 1.90 m. Harbour revealed his actual height in a joint interview with Stranger Things co-star Winona Ryder for the magazine WIRED in 2019.

Harbour mentioned that he is 6’3” to 6’3½” tall in the YouTube video. However, back in February 2018, he told Parade he was a 6’4”.

He said, “I’m around 6’4” and 240 pounds. So I rarely feel that intimidated by other men.”

Talking about his weight, he mentioned that he was 240 pounds back in 2018, but now, he has gained weight and is around 260 pounds.

Harbour has one of the most iconic weight loss journeys. He did not do it for his health but instead for Stranger Things.

He had to undergo a massive weight loss because his character, Hopper, was in a Russian prison in Season 4 of the Netflix series. There, Hopper did not get to eat and had to do a lot of heavy work.

As a result, he lost weight. To portray the same, Harbour had to undergo a massive weight loss transformation. He talked about his journey with GQ in July 2022 and revealed that he lost around 80 pounds.

He did not reveal if he had any workout routine but said that his weight loss was possible due to intermittent fasting and Pilates between the Stranger Things’ third and fourth seasons. 

But Harbour’s weight loss did not last for a long time since he had to regain the weight for his slasher movie, Violent Night.

He told Collider in March 2023 that he would not have to undergo weight loss again. Talking about Hopper, he said, “It was about making him a different guy and sort of shedding a layer of himself physically, mentally, and emotionally. But now he’s back in town, he’s back in America where they have cheeseburgers, so he will be well-fed.”

Does David Harbour smoke?

Yes, Harbour smokes. He told Cigar Aficionado that acting led him to smoking, and he got into cigars in the late 2000s while filming Quantum of Solace.

He got a “bunch of boxes” of cigars from the movie, which eventually made him smoke them. He said, “It’s kind of hard when you fall in love with cigars on a $200 million James Bond movie and you go back to your studio apartment in New York.”

Smoking sometimes made his co-stars uncomfortable. Harbour talked about how his co-star hated him smoking while doing a play in Los Angeles.

He used to smoke during intermissions while practicing the play. Talking about kissing scenes, he said, “My costar hated me for this. I would do mints, I would brush my teeth—she was so mad at me, but God I loved that.” 

His go-to’s are often robustos, such as Partagás Serie D No. 4s or Romeo y Julieta Short Churchills. He also enjoys Padróns, with a preference for the Family Series 50 Years Maduros. 

Talking about smoking, Harbour smoked real cigarettes in Stranger Things. However, he smoked herbal cigarettes when he was with the children.

He said, “I do like to be a smoker when I play a smoker because it’s one of those things. When you see someone fake-smoking in a scene, and you can tell they don’t smoke in real life, that annoys me a lot.”

Drunk History is one of the most innovative shows in television history. Derek Waters, the show’s creator, stays around in the private home of a comedian, actor, or celebrity each week and then gets that person severely intoxicated on their preferred drink.

Harbour also appeared in one of the episodes of Drunk History. He renacted the building of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the February 27, 2018, episode of the Comedy Central show.

Harbour talked about the tattoos with Variety and revealed that his favorite tattoo was ‘Karl Marx’ written on his knuckles. 

He revealed some of the body arts Red Guardian had inked like a picture of Lenin’s head on his abdomen, a Russian gang tattoo, and a special custom tattoo of Rachel Weisz’s face in a bob haircut with ‘Melina’ inked underneath.

Harbour also sported tattoos in Violent Night.

David Harbour’s career and net worth

Harbour is an actor with a net worth of $6 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. 

David Harbour made his theatrical debut in 1999 with a role in the drama The Rainmaker. He has since worked on dozens of films and television series. 

It wasn’t until 2015 that Harbour landed what may be his career-defining role. He had been cast as Chief Jim Hopper in the Netflix series Stranger Things. 

The show itself was highly well-received, with Harbour receiving critical acclaim. In acknowledgment of this character, he was nominated for two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.

Zach and Kaity were dating at the time. Before the eventful day, she was not feeling well and was suffering from a stomach bug. so Zach took her to the hospital.

She said, “On the very last day, I was so depleted of electrolytes, I couldn’t drink anything. Everything came up, so I wasn’t hydrated and I started to feel light-headed and dizzy.”

When she went to the hospital, she had to be given an IV drip. At the time, Zach was beside her, but soon after, he passed out and hit his head on the cement. He was unconscious and was bleeding everywhere.

During the difficult time, she said, “I was a fiancée, a nurse, and a patient all at once in this moment. So then Zach gets rushed to the Dubai hospital.” He became conscious soon after and received a CT scan.

Thankfully, the report did not indicate any bleeding in the brain, and after some stitches, the couple was able to spend their holiday in Dubai.

Zach Shallcross reveals his health condition

At the second group date’s afterparty, 23-year-old e-commerce coordinator Jess Girod wanted Zach to share something unique about himself. She said it could be fun or serious, so Zach spoke about being diagnosed with a rare disease.

He opened up about his pyloric stenosis diagnosis, a rare condition in infants. Due to disease, it blocks food from entering the small intestine. He told Jess, “When I was born, I was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis. I was told that I was not going to live, and my mom kept fighting”.

He also said,” And I feel a crazy sense of purpose like I’m here for a reason”. “And I can’t believe I’m talking about this right now. I don’t think I’ve ever actually said this out loud, unless my mom said it”.

According to research, Pyloric stenosis is an uncommon condition in infants that blocks food from entering the small intestine. Pyloric stenosis, which usually appears within 3 to 5 weeks after birth. Pyloric stenosis is rare in babies older than 3 months.

Typically, a muscular valve between the stomach and small intestine holds food in the stomach until it is ready for the next stage in the digestive process. This valve is called the pylorus valve. In pyloric stenosis, the pylorus muscles thicken and become abnormally large, blocking food from reaching the small intestine.

Pyloric stenosis can lead to forceful vomiting, dehydration, and weight loss. Babies with pyloric stenosis may seem to be hungry all the time. A well-guided surgery from an experienced doctor can cure pyloric stenosis.

Zach picked Kaity as his winner at the Final Rose ceremony in The Bachelor season 27 finale in Krabi, Thailand, where he gave her his final rose and proposed to her.

The couple confirmed they were still together in The Bachelor season 27 “After the Final Rose” special. “When I saw her at the last chance date, I saw her and I thought to myself, ‘It’s you. It’s always been you. And I want to spend the rest of my life with this woman.” He also revealed he had to wait it out a little bit and couldn’t say anything.
