Billie was on tour with Green Day in 1990. On July 4 of the same year, they played at a house party that was attended by Adrienne and her boyfriend, but they didn’t meet at that time.
However, the very next day at The Varsity, a mutual friend introduced Adrienne to the band, sparking the beginning of the musician and his now-wife’s connection. After this initial introduction, they started exchanging letters and maintained their friendship through long-distance calls.
Despite establishing a connection between them, Adrienne was still in an on-and-off relationship with her previous partner. However, after graduating, she decided to break up with him and spent a year being single.
Throughout this period, Billie and his now-wife continued to meet occasionally. The musician also made visits to Mankato, and Green Day organized mini-tours in the city to create opportunities for them to spend time together.
Over time, their connection deepened to the extent that the musician invited Adrienne to move to California with him, urging her to explore the potential of their romantic relationship. Despite feeling scared, Adrienne was determined to be with Billie.

So, before moving, she sold many of her things in a big garage sale. She also rented a mini U-Haul and, with her friends Holly and Steve, drove to California. Two weeks after moving, Billie proposed, and they got married in July 1994.
Shortly after, the couple began expanding their family, welcoming two sons, Joey and Jakob Armstrong. Now, both sons have grown up and followed in their dad’s footsteps, even starting their bands.
In 2008, Joey entered the music industry with his friend Cole Becker, releasing a set of songs on MySpace. Meanwhile, Jakob gained recognition in 2015 by sharing his music on SoundCloud and YouTube. He signed his band, Jakob Danger, with Burger Records, receiving full support from his parents.
Later, the lovebirds renewed their vows in a beautiful ceremony at the Las Vegas Neon Museum in 2014. They adorned themselves in stunning matching black attire and were joined by other musical legends, including Green Day bandmate Tre Cool, Duff McKagan, and Tim Armstrong.

In the TikTok video, the Green Day singer is in a close and comfortable interaction with one of the women. Upon seeing this video, one person accused Billie of “casually cheating on his wife” and claimed he was “exposed” by the women who appeared to be seeking TikTok fame.
Despite the speculation, neither Billie nor his wife has clarified the situation or denied the rumors. However, the couple has emerged even stronger.
On July 3, 2021, they celebrated their 27th marriage anniversary. Adrienne commemorated the occasion by sharing throwback pictures from their wedding, captioning it, “27 – what a ride.”

“Happy 2nd Birthday to my beautiful, fabulous, hilarious, joyous and abundantly amazing baby girl!” Butterworth wrote. “Lola you are my everything!!! You make every single day dazzling and we are so proud of the incredible baby angel you are!”
