Scott Boland Embraced His Family Background in 2017 — About His Ethnicity and Nationality

Inside Scott Boland's Family, Ethnicity, and Nationality

Scott Boland’s career in cricket is widely known. He is a right-arm fast-medium bowler who also plays for Victoria and the Hobart Hurricanes in Australia.

He is one of only a few Indigenous Australians to have been picked to play for Australia at the international level, and he is only the second male Aboriginal player to have played Test cricket for Australia, after Jason Gillespie.

However, Boland was not aware of his heritage and ethnicity. He only came to know that his family was Aboriginal in 2017.

Since then, he has embraced his ethnicity, and his family is proud to be Aboriginals. Here is all we know about it.

What is Scott Boland’s nationality and ethnicity?

Boland was on April 11, 1989, in Mordialloc, Victoria, Australia. Therefore, his nationality is Australian.

In the past, Boland and his family did not know his ethnicity. This was because Boland’s maternal grandfather, John Edwards, was adopted, so it was a mystery where he came from.

After wondering a lot about their ethnicity, Boland’s uncle, Peter, took it upon himself to figure it out. He started investigating and found out that Edwards was Aboriginal.

He was a member of the Gulidjan tribe from the Colac area. The Gulidjan people, also known as the Kolakngat or Colac tribe, are an Aboriginal Australian tribe whose traditional grounds encompass the Lake Colac region of Victoria, Australia.

They lived east of Lake Corangamite, west of the Barwon River, and north of the Otway Ranges in the grasslands, woods, volcanic plains, and lakes area. Their domain was bounded to the north by the Wathaurong, to the west by the Djargurd Wurrung, to the southwest by the Girai Wurrung, and to the southeast by the Gadubanud.

Boland was in his 20s when he came to know about his heritage. At first, he did not know what to think about his indigenous background

But later, he and his family grew proud of their ethnicity and history. He said, “Since then, I think our family is pretty proud of it. We’ve still got a lot to learn about our heritage. The more knowledge we gain, the better we are to talk about it together.”

Boland and his family wanted to embrace their ethnicity without being disrespectful. They continued to find information about their background after finding out that they were Aboriginals.

Boland is doing the same in his own way —  via cricket. Paul Stewart, Cricket Australia’s Indigenous engagement expert, has been assisting him in this endeavor.

“I think almost the best thing is we’re role models for the Indigenous community. Anything we can do to help and hopefully help the next Indigenous Australian cricketer, we’re obviously happy to do,” Boland said.

Boland was chosen for the Aboriginal XI that toured England in 2018 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 1868 Aboriginal squad that visited England. His brother Nick was also a member of the 13th squad.

The 1868 trip was the first time an Australian sports team represented the country outside of Australia. Boland was a tour standout, with some critics describing him as “unplayable” at times.

He got five wickets at an average of 28.40 in six games and was named Taverners Australia Indigenous Cricketer of the Year.

Scott Boland’s parents and siblings

There is not much known about Boland’s parents and siblings. The cricketer is very secretive about his personal life and has not brought his parents and siblings to the limelight.

It is reported that his father’s name is Mick. However, details about his life and career are not known.

Similarly, there is no information known about her mother, except that she is also an Aboriginal. It is unknown how many siblings Boland has.

He has one known brother named Nick. Nick is also a cricketer who was born on August 27, 1991, in Mordialloc, Victoria.

He played for Victoria Under-23s and was a part of several matches in 2018 alongside his brother.

The couple celebrated the engagement at a private party with family and friends of the NBA All-Star, as well as a personalized performance from rapper Common.

Gina Johnson, Lillard’s mother, and a few other friends at the party first broke the story as they uploaded party recordings to their Instagram accounts.

The wedding ceremony featured numerous present and past colleagues, as well as a visit from rapper Snoop Dogg, Common, and Tevin Campbell, who kept the wedding guests entertained.

Among the guests were his teammates and friends CJ McCollum, Evan Turner, Tim Frazier, Jake Layman, and Jusuf Nurkic, who traveled from Europe to salute the bride and groom.

Lillard and his wife Hanson have three children. They became parents for the first time when their first son, Damian Jr., was born in 2018.

On March 29, 2018, Lillard excitedly informed his followers of the news in an Instagram post, writing “Dame Jr.” next to an image of their son.

On January 21, 2021, three years later, they welcomed twins into the world: a son named Kalii Laheem Lillard and a daughter named Kali Emma Lee Lillard.

Lillard announced the happy news of their twins’ arrival via a touching family photo taken at the hospital and wrote, “Just call me Daddy Dame from now on.”

Damian Lillard’s net worth revealed

The well-known American basketball star Lillard has accumulated a stunning net worth of $100 million. His impressive net worth is a result of both his excellent basketball skills and his plentiful endorsement deals.

His career officially began in the NBA when he was chosen in 2012 by the Portland Trail Blazers. Right away, he proved his talent by winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

He recorded 23 points and 11 assists in his debut game, making him only the third player in history to do so. He finished the season averaging 19 points per game, making him one of just three players to win the NBA Rookie of the Year Award unanimously.

During Game 6 of the 2013–2014 playoffs against the Houston Rockets, he hit a game-winning, buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the series. He was chosen to play in the NBA All-Star Game in 2015.

Later that year, Lillard agreed to a $120 million, five-year contract deal. That year, he also made his 600th three-pointer of his professional career, making him the NBA player to do so in the quickest time ever.

After missing the final 47 games last season with injuries, on January 12, 2023, Lillard scored a then-season-high 50 points in a 119–113 loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers. On September 27, 2023, Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a three-team trade.

Lillard, affectionately nicknamed “Dame Time,” has received seven NBA All-Stars and seven All-NBA Team selections, the only player in Trail Blazers franchise history to do so.

The basketball star also has had some success as a rapper under the alias Dame D.O.L.L.A. His second and third studio albums, Confirmed and Big D.O.L.L.A., both reached the indie charts, while his debut studio album, The Letter O, peaked on the Billboard 200.

Damian Lillard’s early life explored

Lillard’s basketball ability first came to light during his high school years at San Lorenzo, where he was raised and was born on July 15, 1990, in Oakland, California.

He changed schools, first attending Alameda and later Oakland High School, to get more playing time. He frequently averaged about 20 points per game at the latter, where he established himself as a strong talent.

His path to basketball stardom, nevertheless, was not without obstacles. He initially only received a couple of offers from colleges despite his obvious potential.

He eventually received a scholarship to play at Weber State in Utah, where he excelled despite suffering a foot ailment that kept him out for an extended length of time.

His college career achieved its pinnacle when he was named a finalist for the coveted Bob Cousy Award. In 2012, he decided to forego his senior year of college and enter the 2012 NBA draft, starting his illustrious professional basketball career.

CrossFit Athlete Mat Fraser’s Net Worth And Tattoo Explored

Mathew Fraser, best known as Mat Fraser, is a former Canadian-American CrossFit competitor who competed between 2014 and 2020.

Fraser is the first athlete to win five CrossFit Games titles in a row, doing so in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. He is largely regarded as the most powerful and successful individual male athlete in CrossFit.

Besides his journey in CrossFit, Fraser is most recognized for his tattoos. He has several unique and meaningful tattoos inked on various parts of his body.

He has five prominent tattoos on his body, and here is all we know about them.

Mathew Fraser and his tattoos

As said before, Fraser has five tattoos inked on various body parts. Perhaps one of the most prominent ones is his chest tattoo that covers the entirety of the first half of his torso.

The tattoo is emphasized as the goat’s skull. Antonio, a tattoo artist who is also a CrossFit devotee and operates a tattoo shop in Milano City, tattooed it for him.

He once posted a photo of the body art with the caption, “Thanks to all the bulls that bucked me off.”

While Fraser has not discussed its meaning yet, a tattoo of a goat’s skull has been interpreted in various manners. The goat skull is associated with human mortality and death.

It symbolizes bravery and fearlessness in the face of death and peril. According to Christian doctrine, the goat skull is also a sign of witchcraft and terrible omens.

His right bicep has various tattoos. On the back side of it, there is a tattoo dedicated to CrossFit.

Fraser is very dedicated to CrossFit, and it has given him everything, from his personal to professional life.

According to Fit At Midlife, he said, “CrossFit is how I’ve met my best friends, business partners, and even my wife. CrossFit is how I found the artist who tattooed my chest, how I was able to travel across the world, and how I bought the home we’ll soon move into in Vermont.”

On the front of his biceps, there is a portrait of two women with America’s flag and clown makeup. He has not revealed the meaning behind the tattoo but revealed that it was done by Antonio, who he considers to be the best tattoo artist in the world.

He posted a photo showing off his body art and Antionio in September 2015 with the caption, “When the best tattoo artist in the world is a Crossfitter and willing to tattoo you…..you say yes! Thank you @mackotattoo for the sick new tattoo.”

On his left biceps, he has tattooed a Serenity Prayer by American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr.

The prayer reads, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference. Courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to understand the difference.”

In an interview with BoxRox, Fraser explained that the tattoo reminded him to control what he could. He said, “It’s the serenity prayer. It reminds me to control what I can and accept that I can’t control everything.”

It is reported that his brother, Jesse, inked the Serenity Prayer. Fraser also has a tattoo of a crying woman behind his right biceps but has not dived deep into it.

Mathew Fraser’s career and net worth

Fraser was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, on January 25, 1990, to Olympic figure skaters Candace Jones and Don. When he was a child, his family relocated to Colchester, Vermont.

Fraser displayed his athletic abilities at a young age, learning to swim at 1 and water skiing at 18 months. He began weightlifting and playing football in middle school.

Fraser attended Northern Michigan University and the University of Vermont after graduating from Colchester High School. His height is 5 ft 6 in (168 cm), and his weight is 195 lb (88 kg).

Fraser earned his first national weightlifting title when he was only 13 years old. He began full-time weightlifting training at the Olympic Training Centre in Colorado Springs after graduating from high school.

In 2009, he had a major back injury just weeks before competing at the Junior World Weightlifting Championship in Romania. Fraser continued to participate, but upon his return home, he discovered that he had sustained two breaks in his lumbar vertebrae, necessitating the use of a torso brace for four months.

Because spinal fusion surgery would have terminated his sports career, he opted for an experimental procedure. Fraser competed in two American Weightlifting Opens after completing his recuperation.

He competed in the National Championships in 2012. Fraser began CrossFit training while still competing in weightlifting.

He began competing in local events and earned sixth in the CrossFit North East Regionals in 2014. For a couple of years, he also participated as part of a team, first with the New York Rhinos in 2014 and then with the Built By Bergeron in 2015.

Fraser finished second behind Rich Froning in his first outing at the CrossFit Games. He was considered the favorite to win the 2015 CrossFit Games when Froning resigned from individual contests in 2015.

However, he finished second once more, this time to Ben Smith. At the 2016 CrossFit Games, Fraser began his historic CrossFit title run.

He won the tournament by 197 points over defending champion Smith after winning the 7k Ranch Trail Run and finishing second in seven other events. It was the largest margin of victory in CrossFit Games history at the time.

Fraser’s domination continued at the 2017 Games, where he won four events and broke his own margin-of-victory record by defeating second-place finisher Brent Fikowski by 216 points.

At the 2018 CrossFit Games, he smashed his personal record yet again, defeating Patrick Vellner by 220 points.

Despite struggling in the early events of the 2019 Games, Fraser came back strong to win his fourth straight gold medal.

Fraser won the 2020 CrossFit Games, which were substantially modified due to the COVID-19 pandemic, winning 14 events and surpassing the margin-of-victory record by defeating runner-up Samuel Kwant by a massive 545 points.

As a result, he became the first athlete in history to win five CrossFit Games titles in a row. He announced his retirement from competitive CrossFit on Instagram in early 2021.

Fraser then released a training program called “Hard Work Pays Off.” In addition, he began training and coaching other CrossFit athletes, including Justin Medeiros and Mal O’Brien.

Fraser also announced the establishment of the supplement firm Podium Nutrition in collaboration with the filmmakers known as the Buttery Bros. As of 2023, it is reported that he has a net worth of $7 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
