Haley was born to her loving parents, Forrest Richardson and Valerie M. Richardson. Her father, Forrest, is a distinguished golf course architect as per Golf Group Ltd.

He studied at the University of Dundee in Scotland and wrote several influential books on golf architecture, including titles like Routing the Golf Course and Bunkers, Pits & Other Hazards. 

He is also a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and the USGA Museum Committee.
