Gabrielle Mooney, a country singer and the sister of Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney, never envisioned herself dreaming of a wedding until a life-altering event reshaped her perspective on her relationship with Graylan Stone.

On Valentine’s Day 2023, Mooney faced a near-death experience that would redefine her understanding of relationships.

Driving from her Nashville home to her childhood home in Natural Dam, Arkansas, Mooney experienced a splitting headache, contemplating pulling over for the night.

However, the desire to wake up in her own bed pushed her to press on—a decision that ultimately saved her life. After arriving home, she began to puke up.

Fortunately, her mother, Cindy Mooney, was awake doing laundry at 3 a.m. and discovered her daughter in distress and promptly sought medical attention.

Mooney’s two-week unconsciousness revealed a diagnosis of hydrocephalus and a brain cyst that had halted her heart’s function. She had to undergo emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on her head, but as a result, the right side of her face was paralyzed.

During this turbulent time, a pivotal moment unfolded that made Mooney believe even more in the strength of her relationship with Stone.

Mooney was unconscious, but her right eye wouldn’t close. She realized Stone, her boyfriend, was “the one,” when she heard that he had leaned over and closed her eye.

“Nobody would be able to stick by you like that and be praying with your family if they didn’t love you,” she expressed during an interview with People

Stone, a triplet, even had his brother by his side in the hospital, to support him. Mooney’s brother Shay was also constantly present during her recovery.

In the aftermath of this life-altering event, Mooney and Stone found solace and assurance in their relationship.

Mooney stated, “OK, if we can make it through something like this, I want to be with you forever,” noting that the near-death experience was a test of their relationship.

Gabrielle Mooney and her husband Graylan Stone first met in 2021

Mooney and Stone met for the first time at the gym in 2021. Mooney, initially hesitant to share her phone number, offered her Instagram account instead.

Stone boldly sent her a direct message, extending an invitation to go on a date. However, Mooney refused but threw a curveball and asked him to church, something she might not have expected him to accept.

They decided to meet at a neighborhood coffee shop close to the service but Mooney forgot to stop. Stone texted her, and she went back to meet him.

On Mother’s Day weekend, Stone proposed to Mooney on her grandparents’ front porch—the very same grandparents who inspired Dan + Shay’s hit ‘From the Ground Up.’

Stone presented Mooney with her grandmother’s engagement ring. Overwhelmed by emotion, she described herself as “a puddle” when he popped the question.

On November 4, 2023, Mooney and Stone got married. She announced the exciting news through Instagram posts, revealing she even wrote the song ‘I Didn’t Know Cowboys Had Tattoos’ about Stone.

The country singer wrote, “I can finally share these!! Eeeeek! I wrote this song for my husband so go download it!” alongside the wedding pictures of them.

On the other hand, Stone wrote, “Thank you for leading us to one another. @gabriellemooneymusic We Married!!!” expressing his gratitude to God for guiding them to each other.
