Taylor Momsen Family — The Actress Once Implied Parents Ruined Her Childhood

Taylor Momsen is a singer, songwriter, musician, model, and former child actor from the United States.
Before she retired from acting, she played Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) and Jenny Humphrey on The CW’s adolescent drama series Gossip Girl (2007–2012). Taylor has been the frontwoman of The Pretty Reckless, an American rock band, since 2008.
She has been active in the entertainment industry ever since she was a child. In fact, she was signed to Ford Models when she was two years old.
Because of her career, which started very early, Taylor has often blamed her family, especially her parents, Michael Momsen and Collette Momsen, for ruining her childhood.

Taylor was born in the Missouri city of St. Louis. Her family consists of her parents, Michael and Collette Momsen, and she has an actress younger sister, Sloane Momsen.
Taylor was 17 years old in 2010 and had been working for 15 of those years. At the time, she was portraying the role of Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl. In November 2010, she was interviewed by Revolver during the fourth season of Gossip Girl.
This was right before it was reported that she would be leaving the adolescent drama since there were rumors that she was unprofessional on set, and guest star Tim Gunn spoke out against it, according to Deadline.
When the actor was interviewed by Revolver, she claimed that her parents were to blame for her ‘miserable’ behavior on the set of the program.
“Everyone’s like, ‘Wow, why is she upset, and why is she so miserable about things?’” Momsen told the magazine (via Daily Mail). “My parents signed me up with Ford [Modeling] at the age of two. No two-year-old wants to be working, but I had no choice.”
She claimed that she did not have a real life and said, “My whole life, I was in and out of school. I didn’t have friends. I was working constantly and I didn’t have a real life.”
In January 2011, the singer noted that she loved her family, and the interview with Revolver did not go as intended. She said that her parents felt ‘horrible’ after reading the story, which prompted her to clarify her position in an interview with Kerrang magazine (via US Weekly).
She explained that she did not have the childhood people believed that she should, and she still “went through the ages.” “I was still a child. Maybe it wasn’t a conventional one, but you know… I like where I am now, so it’s OK.”
“I think my parents have learned by this point that none of [what they read] is probably true, and words can be put in your mouth,” she added. Taylor also stated she struggles with being a celebrity and fame, comparing it to high school and college, but on a much greater scale.

She compared herself and her band to high school and said, “If you think about it like high school or college then you’ve got your circle of friends – my band [guitarist Ben Phillips, bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins] are my friends – then outside of that there’s going to be people that don’t like you, there’s going to be people that talk about you, and there’s going to be people that go ‘Wow! Look how big her shoes are!’ no matter where you are.”
“This is just high school on a massive, massive scale. So I ignore what people say and focus on my music and doing what I do,” she quipped.
Since then, Taylor has given up acting and has become a musician and artist full-time. She formed her metal band, The Pretty Reckless, while she was still on Gossip Girl.
Taylor is still a member of The Pretty Reckless, who have released four studio albums. She never returned to acting after leaving Gossip Girl.
Talking about her career change, she told People in 2021, “Acting was a job that I enjoyed. But I was never in love with it. With music, I wouldn’t know who I am without it. When I got to an age where I could make my own decisions, I quit all my other jobs to just focus on music.”
It looks like her parents are pretty supportive of her career as a rockstar. When she initially started, Taylor was in various controversies regarding her behavior as well as the racy outfits she wore during live shows.
However, it was reported that her parents did not mind it. Her mother, Colette, did not have any problems with her daughter’s choice and was seen attending her concerts.
Her father also does not have any problem with his daughter. In fact, it was him who introduced Taylor to rock ‘n’ roll. The singer addressed the controversy regarding her choices and her family and told Grazia Magazine (via TODAY);
“My style’s not for everyone — I’m an extremist. But my mom loves fashion, so she gets it. My dad is the one who introduced me to rock ‘n’ roll, playing me The Beatles and The Who. They know that sex and rock ‘n’ roll go together — you can’t have one without the other.”
All in all, despite having a rocky start, it looks like Taylor is very happy with her family, and her parents are supportive of her career.

As said before, Taylor has a sibling, a sister named Sloane. Sloane was born on December 20, 1996, in St. Louis, Missouri. Both the Momsen siblings are former actresses. While Taylor diverted towards music, it is unknown what Sloane is up to now.
Like her sister, she got into the entertainment industry at an early age. She appeared as a small girl dreaming of sugarplums in the live-action rendition of How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) with her elder sister, Taylor.

Taylor’s ethnicity, along with her family’s, is German. Her father’s surname, Momsen, is of German origin and is also popular in Sweden and Denmark. Her mother’s ancestors were ethnic Germans from Odesa, then the Russian Empire, now Ukraine, and other parts of the Empire.
As a result, Taylor has claimed, “I’m Russian… My distant ancestors came from Russia.” Talking about religion, she was raised Catholic, attending Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School for elementary school and later Herbert Hoover Middle School (in Potomac, Maryland) for middle school.
But now, she is not religious and does not identify as a Christian anymore. She gave her opinion on religion in a 2014 interview with MTV, where she said, “I’m not actually a very religious person…”
She also noted that she was not a Satanist. When asked if she considered herself to be spiritual, she said, “Yeah. I don’t think that religion is necessarily a bad thing. I think finding your spirituality, some kind of center in your life is a necessary thing for everyone.”
“Whether that comes from religion or from meditation or from whatever…for me it’s music,” she added. Furthermore, she pointed out that she found solace in music since it was what kept her grounded and together.

“Michael Landon was like a father figure to many of us, obviously, and a very, very important influence in my life,” says Gilbert, explaining her own experiences in fatherhood.
She revealed that her father passed away when she was 11 years of age, and it was while working on the series. Therefore, the actress says Landon watched over her in a much more paternal way.
Gilbert added that they had become very close and that their family had also vacationed together. They also celebrated New Year’s together.
Landon seems to have tried to fill the void of Gilbert’s missing father, and the actress appreciates the effort. She remembers him to this date as a great man and a great father figure.

Not only that, but Gilbert also contributes to the success of the program for Landon. She says, “It blows my mind that all of this is because of him. These people are here because he wrote this show and directed it and produced it, and I know that he would be incredibly proud if he could see this.”
Unfortunately, the actor died in 1991 due to pancreatic cancer. She ended the interview by saying, “This is a legacy. A hundred percent.”
Although it’s been 50 years since the release of Little House on the Prairie, the show and its cast are equally famous. The show started in 1974 with popular main cast members like Landon, Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson, Sidney Greenbush, and Dean Butler.
Back in 2022, Gilbert remembered the actor on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of his death. She wrote a heartfelt essay through PanCAN, which is a charity fund for people affected by the disease.
“Today I am missing my mentor, my acting partner, my favorite director, father figure, friend, and boss. Today I am missing my Pa. Today I am missing Michael Landon. So much so, that I can feel it in my chest, in my heart. I am aching for him,” she says.

Gilbert’s ‘father figure’ Landon was an American actor and filmmaker who is known for his role in the hit series Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie, and Highway to Heaven.
He was born on October 31, 1936, as Eugene Maurice Orowitz in Forest Hills, New York. He was the son of Peggy and Eli Maurice Orowitz. His father was Jewish, and his mother was Roman Catholic who used to be a professional comedian.

Josie Totah played the leading role of Mabel Emsworth in the 2023 historical series The Buccaneers. In this series, her character falls in love with a woman named Honoria Marable (portrayed by Mia Threapleton).
The American actress has openly come out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and is transgender. Due to her sexuality and her portrayal of similar roles in various movies and TV shows, people have been wondering if she will take on similar roles in the future.
However, this does not seem to be the case for the actress, as she has firmly mentioned she is open to any role as she is an actress first. She attended the 2024 SCAD TVFest in Atlanta in February and mentioned her plans to work in various roles with people.

Ever since Totah was a child, the people around her always viewed her as gay, as she was a bit different from others. Not only that, even the entertainment industry gave her that image due to the roles she played.
She also revealed that many reporters asked her what it was like being a gay young man, and many were already quick to assume the same. The actress also clarified being a member of the LGBTQ+ community before, but it only led to more people thinking she’s gay.
Therefore, the actress made a very bold decision to be free and let everyone know her natural sexuality. Despite what she might be hearing, support, or hate, she outed herself as Josie Totah, a trans-woman.
Totah identifies as a female and uses the pronoun she/her/hers. In a very heartfelt letter, she also says this is not something that happened out of the blue nor the choice she made.
The actress found out about her sexuality at the young age of 14 while watching the series I Am Jazz with her mother. In the middle of the show, she revealed to have yelled at her mother, saying this is what I have to do (while watching Jazz Jennings going through a medical transition).
This revelation might not have been easy, but it sure helped that her mother was super supportive from the start. Therefore, at 14, she started taking hormone blockers.
During the initial stages of transition, Totah was in constant fear of society as well as the effect of male hormones on her body. She was also scared about the identity documents and how people would see her.
However, the actress has had many reassurances in her life. She felt delighted hearing Josie from friends and family, and it was a process of healing and better understanding herself.
She wraps up her heartfelt note, stating, “This week, I’m going off to college. I’m also going to continue my acting career, and I am so excited to do both things myself. I plan to play roles I haven’t had the opportunity to play. And I can only imagine how much more fun it’s going to be to play someone who shares my identity, rather than having to contort myself to play a boy. I’m going to gun for those roles, be it a transgender female or a cisgender female. Because it’s a clean slate — and a new world.”

Totah played the role of a boy in several movies and TV shows until 2018, including Glee, Champions, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. After she came out to the world in 2018, her first project was the American comedy series The Other Two, in which she played the role of Elijah.

In the same year, she played the role of Lisa Haddad in four episodes of the American comedy No Good Nick. The actress started playing female roles actively and got her first leading role in the sitcom Saved by the Bell, where she portrayed the role of Lexi Haddad-DeFabrizio.
