She faced abuse and misogyny in her career
Samantha Morton began her film career at the age of 13 with a guest role in four episodes of the drama series Soldier Soldier.

As she began to flourish, she also started facing many challenges.
In the interview with Vanity Fair, she recalled her earlier days of dealing with industry abuse and misogyny in her career. She spoke about being touched inappropriately and repeatedly on film sets.
One of the producers, Harvey Weinstein, had made it harder for her in the film business as she refused to play his misogynistic film and get intimate with him.
“I was bullied by many producers, not just Harvey Weinstein. I have been fired because I wouldn’t get my breasts out. I’ve been fired because I wouldn’t sleep with my leading man,” she told Vanity Fair.
She is proud of her decision not to let her integrity fall. In the interview with The Guardian, she reveals how she did not choose to get the role by impressing the film executives.
She said, “I didn’t play the game, and those actresses that did, and knew how to, are certainly very successful today. I just had to be able to go to bed at night and be comfortable with myself.”
She also talked about the presence of misogyny in the film industry and how females have to deal with it daily.
“Just that women were treated a certain way in the 90s and 2000s, we just were in any industry – there was misogyny everywhere,” she said, “And there still is – I think there’s misogyny on film sets still, and we have to deal with it on a day-to-day basis.”
She added, “That can even be down to how people talk to us or how they talk to the makeup team or female runners. It’s a pretty male industry.”
Morton established herself in Independent films and as a filmmaker
Elizabeth, The Golden Age actress, also established herself in independent films in the early 2000s. She played plenty of them, including Morvern Callar, In America, Best Actress, Control, and many more. She won a Golden Globe award for one of those films named Longford.

Morton found it hard to get funding for her next film, Starlings, intended to be the second of a trilogy.
She expressed it was hard to be a female filmmaker and that people trust male filmmakers more than females.
Despite such obstacles, her struggle and integrity have paid off. She is now leading in the film business and inspires many people.
