This escalated after the actress was spotted barefoot onstage while presenting the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role after breaking a heel and stumbling on the red carpet, prompting her to remove her shoes in February 2022.

Martin Short, her Only Murders in the Building co-star, followed her onstage and joked about getting Botox when Gomez agreed with him. 

Short said, “I’m excited too. Although, it’s hard for me to express the excitement because the Botox is fresh,” to which ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’ singer replied, “Alright, mine too.”

Aside from the humorous remark, Gomez has not officially verified whether she has ever had cosmetic modifications or commented directly on netizens’ accusations of plastic surgery.

Many accused her of getting a cheek implant because they claimed that weight loss and gain should have impacted her entire face, not just her cheeks. She has also been accused of rhinoplasty, brow lift, boob job, and lip fillers.

While people have defended her, saying that she looks the same without makeup and it was the makeup that changed her appearance, many are adamant that Gomez has gone under the knife.

The truth behind the rumors

While Gomez has joked about getting Botox or cosmetic procedures, she has never revealed the truth. She has not addressed it to date, so there is no way of knowing if she has gotten any plastic surgery.

That being said, many have claimed that Gomez’s weight loss and gain have impacted how she looks. This has led many to believe that she is getting plastic surgery wrongly.

The actress, who has been scrutinized since her teens, spoke up about her weight loss and gain on TikTok live on February 16, 2023. She revealed that the drugs she uses to control her lupus might cause her weight to fluctuate on a daily basis. 

Between 2012 and early 2014, she was diagnosed with lupus. Lupus, also known as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is an autoimmune illness in which the body’s immune system assaults healthy tissue in many different places of the body. 

Painful and swollen joints, fever, chest discomfort, hair loss, mouth ulcers, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and a red rash, most typically on the face, are all common symptoms. Talking about her medication and weight loss, Gomez noted, “When I’m taking it, I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally. And then when I’m off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight.”

She shared her medical history because she wanted to encourage anyone who felt shame for going through something difficult. She pointed out that everyone was beautiful despite going through health difficulties.

“I just want people to know that you’re beautiful and wonderful and yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like shit but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself and my medications are important,” Gomez stated.

She knew she was not a model and never would be because of her health and constant weight loss and gain. She said, “Not a model, never will be. I think they’re awesome, mind you, I just am definitely not that so that’s it.”

Regardless, she thanked her fans and followers for supporting and understanding her. “I just wanted to tell you I love you guys and thanks for supporting me and understanding and if not, go away because honestly, I don’t believe in shaming people for body or anything,” she added.

So, because of constant weight loss and gain, Gomez’s appearance has changed over time. Similarly, she looks different without makeup and even in natural glam.

Unlike her parents and siblings, Jocelyn chose to live her life out of the spotlight.

The youngest one —  Reed Cross Howard

Reed is the only son and the youngest of the siblings, who was born on April 12, 1987.

Like his sister Jocelyn, Reed chose not to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Instead, he focused on athletics —  the only one in his family.

He is currently a professional golfer with a significantly large following on Instagram and YouTube, where he routinely publishes golf videos, lessons, drills, and other content.

Reed always talks highly of his family. Despite moving from city to city as a child due to his father’s career, he claimed his parents always prioritized family time.

In an interview where he promoted Bryce’s documentary Dads, he praised his mother for keeping their family together. He said, “My mom was incredible in the way that we grew up just traveling all over, wherever my dad was filming his next movie.”

There was never a time when siblings stayed home with their mother while their father traveled around. Instead, the parents were always together and kept their family as such.

Similarly, Reed talked about his father and how he was a dotting dad. Even though Ron worked hard in the movie, when he was not active on the set, he was active at home.

He would always be there for the Howard siblings and spend as much time as he could with them. “My dad was working so hard on the movie, all that coordinating stuff he wasn’t as active in … So he was very active at home. He would be there for us and we could go to set and hang out with him,” Reed added.
