England manager Gareth Southgate is preparing for the new Euro Tournament taking place in mid-2024. However, according to the latest media reports, the new chairman of Manchester United Jim Ratcliffe is set to appoint him the manager of the Red Devils after the end of the tournament.
This means that the job of the current Manchester United manager Eric Ten Haag is not secure. Southgate is currently managing a few Manchester United players, including Marcus Rashford, who has given blessing to the Englishman.

However, their failure to capitalize on the home fans to the weak Italian side during the Euro finals has made him receive much criticism from the fanbase.
Few fans are also not impressed with his pragmatic approach, with tons of attacking talent being unused substitutes on the bench. However, these criticisms have not put off Ratcliffe as he is ready to pounce on the opportunity of making him the Red Devil’s manager.
When asked about the recent news on the Manchester United job, Southgate preferred not to direct attention from his current goal and that is taking his young English team towards the trophy.
However, if he decides to leave England’s position and join Manchester United he might be relieved by the news that his owner and several United players have given his backing to the current English boss.
Players like Marcus Rashford, Harry McGuire, and Luke Shaw are excited to train day to day with their current England coach. Even young English footballer Jaden Sancho is excited to play under Southgate as he has left for Dortmund following his bust-up with current Manchester United manager Eric Ten Haag.
Manchester United Legends Gary Neville Speaks on Gareth Southgate Links
Roy Keane and Gary Neville are convinced that Gareth Southgate is a strong contender to replace Erik ten Hag as the manager of Manchester United. With Ten Hag’s position at United in doubt following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority stake acquisition and the team’s current sixth-place standing in the Premier League, it is expected that United will bring in Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth.
Ashworth, who has expressed his desire to leave Newcastle and has previously worked with Southgate at the Football Association, is seen as a key player in this potential transition.
Keane, speaking on Sky Bet’s Stick to Football podcast, expressed his belief that Southgate could be the next United manager, especially if he performs well with England in the upcoming European Championship. Neville, initially skeptical about Southgate’s fit for the role, now sees it as a real possibility, particularly with Ashworth’s involvement.
He questions what Ten Hag needs to achieve to retain his position as United manager, pondering whether winning the FA Cup or securing a top-four or top-five finish in the Champions League would be sufficient.
