Cole Palmer has been a stunning signing for Premier League Club Chelsea this season. In the last FA Cup fixture against Leicester City, he once again proved to be a difference-maker for the club. The young Englishman scored one and assisted a crucial goal in the 90th minute to take the Blues into the FA Cup semifinals.

However, this was not the single instance where he has been the difference maker. He has revolutionized the young Chelsea side, which is having a difficult and disappointing season. The Blues are currently 11th in the league and have already lost the league cup final to Liverpool.

Despite the Blue’s disappointing season, he is having a tremendously successful career move that has led him to the first-time selection for England’s senior National Team.

Cole Palmer is having a blistering season

English Football Club Chelsea has not been shy about spending money on the transfer market. In the past three transfer windows, they have spent over 1 billion to buy new players. They have bought at least 40 to 50 new and young players in the club.

Naturally, it is no surprise that they have got one transfer right; however, not many have predicted it would be the $50 million deadline-day transfer from Manchester City.

Palmer was looking to become the next best thing under coach Pep Guardiola. However, when he realized he would not get the starting role despite the sale of Riyad Mahrez, he left Manchester City to join Chelsea.

On a weak and disoriented Chelsea side, he has been a revelation. Ever since the start of the premier league, he has started 23 games for Chelsea, scored 11, and assisted 8 goals. He was also monumental for the team in the league cup as he scored two goals and assisted two to send them to the finals.

Other contenders for the signing of the season

Palmer has certainly been the shining light for Chelsea fans, but other players are having an equally good season. Many Arsenal fans might believe that England international Declan Rice is having a better season than the Chelsea winger. However, Rice went for over 100 million while Palmer’s transfer fee was less than half.

Three Liverpool signings, Alexis Macallister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and shock signing of the season Wataru Endo, are having excellent seasons. On the white side of North London, Dutch defender Micky Van De Ven and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario are also having amazing seasons.

Palmer’s teammate Malo Gusto is also having a decent season, and Chelsea have not been feeling the absence of the star right back and club captain Reece James’s long absence due to injury.

There might be a case for all other players to be referred to as the signing of the season. However, the impact the right winger has produced for Chelsea has not been replicated yet.

It is also scary to imagine where Chelsea would be currently if they had not signed him from Manchester City. If the English right winger becomes even more effective and wins the FA Cup or helps them reach the Europa League, then the claim will be even more one-sided.

Cole Palmer’s career

Palmer’s career started when he was just eight years old. He was an upcoming youth player for Manchester United. Alongside Phil Foden, he was one of the next big things to come out of Manchester City Academy.

His progress was noticeable when he started captaining the under-18 side during the 19-20 season. He made his first senior debut for Manchester City on 20th September 2020, when he came as a substitution in the 3-0 win against Burnley.

Just a month after his premier league debut, he made his UEFA Champions League debut, where he scored as well. Before his transfer to Chelsea, he scored an important goal in the FA Community Shield final and also scored the equalizer in the last minutes of the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla.

When asked about his transfer to Chelsea, he replied that he didn’t regret the decision one bit. He revealed that despite the team’s struggle, he is having a brilliant season with growth for more in the future. He also stated that the team is new and young, and in later years, the project will surely click.
