Liverpool are out of the FA Cup after a stunning late comeback from Manchester United. 21-year-Ivorian youngster Amad Diallo turned out to be a hero for the Red Devils as his 119-minute winner was enough to send them to the Semi-Finals.

The young winter came onto the pitch after the 85th minute and produced a clinic, finishing after setting up a blistering counter-attack in the first place. However, he will not be able to play in the semi-finals after getting sent off moments later.

Amad Diallo’s late winner ends Liverpool’s quadruple dream

In the match full of everything between the monumental rivals, Manchester United vs Liverpool did not disappoint the neutrals. However, nobody would have predicted it would be young 21-year-old Diallo to be a match-winner in a game of such magnitude.

The game started evenly until Manchester United took the lead in the 10th minute via Scott McTominay. Liverpool began to grow into the game, and within a minute remaining in the half, they scored two. Alexis MacAllister and Mohammed Salah scored for the Reds as they went into the lead at halftime.

It took the 83rd minute to tie off the score with Antony’s cool low shot with his weak foot. The match went into extra time. Nearly at the end of the first half of extra time, Harvey Elliot’s deflected shot gave Liverpool an advantage. However, there was still plenty of twist in the tale as Marcus Rashford capitalized on the mistake of Liverpool’s defense.

As the tie was heading out into penalties, there was a moment of brilliance from Ivorian as he quickly pounced on the loose ball and passed into Argentian Garnacho. He received a pass back from the Argentinian and slotted home in the bottom-left corner to send the Red Devils to the semi-finals.

Why did Amad Diallo get sent off after scoring a winner?

Diallo was so static with the winner in the 120th minute that he couldn’t stop removing his shirt. Taking your shorts off during the match is against the rule, which is why referees generally show the player a yellow card.

Since he was already booked in the 116th minute of the match, he received his second yellow in the 119th minute. Since two yellow turned out to be a red card in the professional football match, he was sent off after scoring a winner.

After receiving a red card, the Ivorian is now suspended for the premier league game against Brentford on March 30. However, after the late winner, he will be itching to come back on the field and help his team in the matches to come.

Amad Diallo’s career

Diallo was playing his club football for Boca Blanco. Rated as one of the best youngsters on the team, he was spotted by the scouts in Atlanta. The Ivorian moved to Atlanta in 2015, where he instantly started impressing in the youth team. He scored a crucial goal against Roma in the under-15 side to ensure his team’s first title victory.

After playing for four years in the youth setup, he finally moved to the senior team in 2019. He made his senior debut against Udinese in the 78th minute. In his debut game, he scored just four minutes later in a rampant 7-1 win. Just two years later, after his first appearance on the Seria A team, he made his debut in the UEFA Champions League.

In 2020, he finally got the big transfer he was dreaming of. He was signed by Manchester United in the January Transfer Window of 2021. The reported fee was approximately $25 million, which would rise to $40 million based on performance bonuses and add-ons.

Diallo has only played four matches for United in 2024 and has only scored one crucial goal: the winner against Liverpool.
