What happened to Romola Garai?
Garai is a very outspoken personality who has always fought for better working conditions for women as well as other troubles at work. Although her personal life is secretly kept, she has shared about her experiences in the entertainment industry.
Back in 2017, the actress shared how she almost quit Hollywood after she was bullied on the sets of a Harvey Weinstein project. She claimed that the producers asked her to lose weight while filming Dirty Dancing 2.
Garai also shared how violated she felt when she was auditioning for the role at the very young age of 18. She had to wear just a dressing gown for the audition and was asked to lose weight two years later, although she was fit enough.
After this horrifying experience, she returned to University and started pursuing education at the Queen Mary University of London. However, acting was her calling, and she mustered up the courage to join soon after.
Speaking up about such matters surely got her career a bit of a back-burner, but she revealed she was okay with not playing leading lady. In an interview with Stella Magazine, she shared, “I’m sure there are a lot of directors who think I’m a bloody nightmare because I will say what I think on set. But that is who I am.”
