Does Ayo Edebiri have a boyfriend?

Edebiri’s burgeoning career is something she proudly showcases on her social media platforms. However, one aspect she keeps relatively private is her romantic life.

While Edebiri prefers not to publicly discuss her relationship status, her boyfriend, Colin Burgess, is more open about it on his own social media accounts.

According to reports from Just Jared, the couple have been romantically involved for several years. Burgess, known for his roles in both writing and acting, gained recognition for his part in the 2023 comedy film Dad & Stepdad.

He’s also actively engaged on social media, once humorously claiming to be “One of the first people to come up with the idea to do a funny tweet” in his bio.

The exact start date of their relationship remains undisclosed. While the actress refrains from discussing it publicly, Burgess has subtly hinted at their commitment through occasional social media posts.

In one instance, Burgess shared a snapshot of them both wearing hydrating face masks, accompanied by a playful caption on Valentine’s Day 2021. Additionally, Burgess expressed pride in The Bear star achievements, such as when she presented her first Emmy in September 2022, a moment he celebrated on Instagram.

She also expressed her love for him and even mentioned having a joint checking account, with her putting all of her money into his savings account. 

She tweeted, “I love my boyfriend so so much. his name is Cradley and he is 17 and he is a musical.ly star. we have a joint checking account and i put all of my money in his savings account.” It’s unclear whether this tweet was genuine or if it was meant as a joke or satire. 

Additionally, in a  from May 2019, Edebiri expressed her desire to date a 40-year-old as a 23-year-old.

The comedian tweeted, “as a 23 year old, i want to date a 40 year old but am disgusted by any 40 year old who would date a 23 year old and that’s sort of my life’s great trauma.”

Similarly, on November 2019, Edebiri  that every guy she had a crush on just looked like the “glasses emoji.”

Ayo Edebiri describes dating as tricky

During her stand-up show on Comedy Central, Edebiri humorously described the challenges of dating. 

Coming from Boston, she joked about the homogeneous Caucasian population and how everyone appeared the same to her. Having lived in New York for six years, she reflected on her lack of standards and self-respect during that time. 

A notable anecdote she shared was about living with a woman she met on Craigslist who claimed to be 30 but turned out to be 48. 

She amusingly recounted an incident where her roommate’s parents stayed for what felt like an eternity, with their early morning egg-boiling habits and the challenges it brought.

Edebiri then shifted to her dating experiences in Los Angeles, where she playfully lamented running into a group of women known as “Hime” and jokingly expressed her addiction to traumatic dating experiences. 

She also then mentioned that she has been dating, describing it as a “little tricky.” Moreover, she touched on the current climate for black women dating white men, highlighting the irony of historical struggles and the sometimes underwhelming outcomes.

Edebiri, born on October 3, 1995, in Boston, grew up in a religious Pentecostal household. She discovered her passion for comedy in eighth-grade drama class and later joined the improv club at Boston Latin School. 

She pursued her studies at New York University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching. During her junior year of college, she pursued a comedy career and interned at Upright Citizens Brigade.
