Justin Theroux is a highly enigmatic actor who has starred in some huge blockbusters, including Girl on the Train, American Psycho, and Mulholland Drive. He’s appeared alongside some huge Hollywood A-listers, from Emily Blunt to Naomi Watts.
In addition to acting, Theroux has co-written screenplays such as Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2. He has also made a name for himself as somewhat of a fashion icon and is famed for his marriage to Jennifer Aniston, which ended after only two years.
It’s, therefore, no surprise that the Theroux name is synonymous with Justin in the States. However, say the name Theroux in the UK, and it’s Justin’s cousin Louis who comes to mind instantly.
Who is Justin’s cousin, and why is he so famous?
Louis Theroux, the famous British icon, is a renowned filmmaker and broadcaster best known for his unique and immersive approach to interviewing controversial figures. He’s also notorious for getting to the heart of taboo subjects.
Over the decades, Theroux has gained widespread acclaim for his style of documentary-making, which you can witness and enjoy yourself with BBC’s iPlayer, an online streaming service where it’s possible to view just about all of Theroux’s documentaries or listen to his podcasts.
If you’ve already tried to access iPlayer outside of the UK, you’ll most likely have had a message telling you it’s unavailable, as you won’t be granted access if a non-British IP address is detected. To prevent this from happening, you’ll need to get a BBC iPlayer VPN so you can gain access to a BBC iPlayer account and avoid any IP blocks or error messages when you log in.
Like other gonzo journalists, Louis has established his prowess by embedding himself within various subcultures and communities whilst delving into often complex and challenging topics that make for unmissable TV.
Award-winning documentaries
Some of Theroux’s earlier work includes the documentary series “Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends”. The series covers a range of topics, from Survivalists to UFO hunters, and is what established Theroux as one of the most intuitive documentary makers around.
Since then, the presenter has gone on to make some thoroughly enlightening and often intensely nail-biting television. His subjects have since extended beyond the UK, with his series “Forbidden America” delving into some of the most controversial communities and cultures in American society. Additionally, one of his most praised works is “The Most Hated Family in America,” which explores the controversial Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas.
Podcasts
Like many celebs, during the lockdown, Louis recorded a series of podcasts interviewing several celebrities, from Chris O’Dowd to Michaela Coel, which you can also listen to on music streaming platforms. His latest series, simply titled “The Louis Theroux Podcast,” sees the presenter embarking on a series of in-depth interviews with an array of fascinating figures from around the world.
A family affair
It seems that despite the geographical distance, Louis and Justin remain close, with Justin even being an interviewee for one of Louis’ earlier podcasts. The pair reminisced about their shared childhood memories and even disagreed on how to pronounce their surname!
Justin has also starred in the series Mosquito Coast, which was an adaptation of the book of the same name written by none other than Paul Theroux – Louis’ father and Justin’s uncle!
Louis has recently joked that he would love to get Jusin’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston to record an episode of the podcast series!
Whilst it’s hard not to marvel at the familial connections or the fact that he was once Jennifer Aniston’s brother-in-law, Louis should be admired as an absolute powerhouse when it comes to creating some truly groundbreaking television. Checking out his impressive body of work is an absolute must!
