Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Slammed after Inviting Taylor Swift to Bring Eras Tour to Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced significant backlash on Twitter after a controversial post in which he attempted to entice Taylor Swift to perform in Canada by using lyrics from her songs. 

On July 6, 2023, Swift took to Twitter to share her excitement about adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour and performing alongside her longtime friend Hayley Williams from Paramore.

In response to Swift’s announcement, Trudeau , “It’s me, hi. I know there are places in Canada that would love to have you. So, please don’t make it another disappointing summer for us. We really hope to see you soon.”

Despite the Canadian Prime Minister simply expressing his disappointment at Canada not being included in Taylor Swift’s tour, his tweet faced criticism from social media users who mocked him and raised questions about his priorities.

Many people interpreted the Prime Minister’s tweet as indicating Canada’s struggling economy and questioned his emphasis on entertainment while wildfires continued ravaging parts of the country.

People’s Reactions to Justin Trudeau’s Tweet on Taylor Swift’s Tour

Following Trudeau’s tweet, there was a range of reactions from people, with many expressing disappointment. One notable response came from the official Twitter page of Enguerrand VII de Coucy, which , “Is the Canadian tourism industry that hard up, that the PM has to go out and beg people to come perform in Canada? This is one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen.”

Similarly, John Smith on the matter, highlighting Canada’s existing challenges, stating, “Canada is suffering with so many issues right now, and our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is fixated on Taylor Swift’s concert schedule. This is a definite man-child!”

Smith’s comment reflected a critical perspective, suggesting that Trudeau’s focus on Swift’s concert schedule was misplaced, given the pressing issues facing the country.

Similarly to the previous comment, one person , “When our PMJT tweets Taylor Swift to perform in Canada, it is obvious he has too much time on his hands and his priorities are half-ass backward.”

Amidst the widespread criticism of Trudeau’s tweet, there were a few individuals who showed support. One person stated that they didn’t perceive it as a sign of desperation but rather viewed Trudeau’s message as a request for someone widely recognized as the most famous, talented, gorgeous, and amazing person on the planet to grace their country. 

However, despite the significant backlash received, the Prime Minister had not responded to the criticism directed towards his tweet.
