She said, “On July 24, 2021, I made a decision. I decided to stop drinking alcohol cold turkey. This is a very dangerous thing to do and I do not recommend anyone EVER quitting alcohol without medical assistance.”

She recounted the severity of her withdrawals, which were so intense that she experienced seizures and had to be hospitalized for three days.

During this difficult time, her dear fellow Bachelor Nation alumni Natasha Parker came to her rescue, calling for help, staying by her side at the hospital, and notifying her loved ones of the situation.

“The only reason I made it to the hospital is because I had my wonderful, angel of a friend Natasha Parker with me. She called the ambulance and stayed at the hospital with me until other friends could be there,” the reality TV star expressed.

Burnett expressed immense gratitude for Parker’s support and presence during one of the most challenging moments of her life.

Burnett’s journey to sobriety also sheds light on the reasons behind her excessive drinking. She candidly revealed that she used alcohol as a means to self-medicate her anxiety and cope with nervous system activations.

For her, alcohol served as a way to dull the overwhelming sensations of the world and to subdue the fear of being judged or rejected by others for being her authentic self.

However, she recognized that relying on alcohol had detrimental effects, as it led her to ignore her true emotions and stifle her genuine self-expression.

She also shared her belief that many neurodivergent individuals might face similar struggles and might find themselves turning to alcohol as a coping mechanism.

Instead of resorting to alcohol-induced numbness, she now employs other coping strategies, like wearing noise-canceling earbuds or dark sunglasses, to handle overstimulation and process the world around her more comfortably.

Throughout her candid account, The Bachelor star emphasized that alcohol was once a tool for her, a crutch she leaned on to navigate the world more comfortably.

However, with newfound awareness about her neurodivergent traits, she has been able to explore healthier ways of accommodating herself and managing her emotions.
