Connor candidly talked about his sister Deirdre Brennan’s coming out story. He reflected on his sister’s coming out experience as a transgender individual within their family.
Recounting the events in 2017 during a Christmas break in their St. Louis home, Connor shared the emotional moment when Deirdre, who had already confided in him, gathered the courage to come out to their parents.
As Deirdre stood in the doorway, she became overwhelmed with emotion, and tears started to flow. For nearly 10 minutes, she struggled to speak while their parents reassured her that everything would be alright.
Eventually, Deirdre revealed her truth, explaining that she is transgender and identifies as a woman. Connor’s mother acknowledged the news, assuring Deirdre that everything was fine and that they would navigate the journey together.

However, it was Connor’s father who offered an incredibly heartwarming reaction. Taking a moment to process the information, he looked at Deirdre and inquired, “Okay, is this going to make you happy?”
Deirdre said yes, and upon receiving a positive response, Connor’s father expressed, “Okay, great. Well, we love you no matter what. Now, I gotta go mow the lawn.”
The 31-year-old also stressed that being trans is a normal and beautiful part of life, stating, “Being trans is a part of life; it’s not some big showstopping thing.”
Connor Brennan’s allyship toward LGBTQ+ transformed after his sister’s transition
When the outlet asked if his allyship had changed since his sister’s transition, Connor excitedly replied, “Oh, my gosh, yeah. I mean, that’s sort of what ignited my allyship.”
Connor admitted that he had always considered himself an ally for the LGBTQ+ community. Still, he recognized that he had the privilege of not personally experiencing hate due to his own identity or whom he loved.

However, witnessing the challenges and discrimination his sister faced ignited a fierce protective instinct within him.
He shared how his family educated themselves extensively, read every available resource, and adapted to support Deirdre.
His mother, Lisa Brennan, even wrote a book called Treasuring My Transgender Child to share their story of love and acceptance and inspire others with similar experiences.
When asked about his journey of educating himself about LGBTQ+ issues, Connor admitted it was initially challenging to let go of preconceived notions.
However, Connor recognized that it was not his place to question or invalidate someone’s identity. He admitted that accepting his sister’s true self brought her immense happiness, and he couldn’t help but support her.

As someone who frequently educates others about LGBTQ+ issues, Connor shared that he tries to normalize the conversation.
He casually mentions his sister’s transgender identity when appropriate, treating it as a natural part of life rather than a dramatic revelation.
Additionally, Connor addressed the influx of anti-trans bills and the impacts they have on his sister and their family. He expressed his frustration and anger towards the legislators who wish to erase and oppress the trans community.
At last, the reality TV star expressed hope that more families like his will emerge, accepting and supporting the transgender community.
