As if being the father of the two biggest TikTok stars – Charli D’Amelio and Dixie D’Amelio – wasn’t enough, Marc D’Amelio is now looking forward to buying the online platform.

On Saturday, March 18, 2023, Marc took to his Twitter handle to express that he was putting together a team of investors so that they could buy TikTok. He wrote, “I am putting together a group of investors to pursue the purchase of TikTok.”

As of this writing, his tweet has been viewed by nearly 63,000 Twitter users and has received an overwhelming response. Similarly, when TeaTok Talk posted a screenshot of Marc’s tweet on Instagram, netizens expressed their opinions in the comment section.

For instance, one user questioned Marc’s financial condition and wrote, “TikTok is worth billions of dollars there is no way he can find people to buy this like he is not that rich and even if he finds other rich friends.”

“I don’t think he can purchase TikTok gotta be way more famous than regular TikToker it has to be celebrity or billionaire,” another commented.

Similarly, one Instagram user mocked how today’s teenagers are hooked to TikTok and wrote, “Yall realize if we don’t have tiktok, we can finally go back to 2000 and be kids that watch Disney and nickelodeon.”

Furthermore, a netizen mentioned that they would rather have Marc buy and invest in TikTok than see the platform banned permanently in the United States. “Plus, it wouldn’t just be him buying it; it’d be a group of investors…y’all being too dramatic,” they added.

With that being said, if Marc ends up being the co-owner of TikTok, then the D’Amelio family will indeed rule the app. Currently, Charli is TikTok’s second most-followed creator, with over 150.3 million followers, and Dixie has garnered more than 57.3 million followers.

Why is Marc D’Amelio looking to buy TikTok?

The news of Marc forming a group of investors to buy TikTok comes days after it was reported that federal officers are pressing TikTok’s Chinese owners to sell their stake. And if they fail to do so, the social media platform will face a ban in the US.

These actions currently taken by the Biden administration were also previously taken by the Trump administration. Likewise, CNN reported that this notice came from the multi-agency Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) after negotiations between the two parties: the US Government and TikTok.

Additionally, CNN mentioned that the ultimatum given to TikTok by the US government is a result of the pressure given from Washington as lawmakers again talk about the national security concerns raised by the social media platform.

As for whether or not TikTok has responded to CFIUS’ ultimatum, TikTok’s spokesperson Maureen Shanahan told CNN, “If protecting national security is the objective, divestment doesn’t solve the problem.”

“A change in ownership would not impose any new restrictions on data flows or access. The best way to address concerns about national security is with the transparent, US-based protection of US user data and systems, with robust third-party monitoring, vetting, and verification, which we are already implementing.”

Likewise, when TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew was at a Harvard Business Review conference in early March 2023, he stated, “The Chinese government has actually never asked us for US user data, and we’ve said this on the record, that even if we were asked for that, we will not provide that.”

Chew also stressed that all the data of TikTok users from the United States is stored in the Oracle Cloud infrastructure by default, and access to those data is entirely controlled by US personnel.

Furthermore, TikTok’s CEO addressed the lawmaker’s concerns about the Chinese government using the platform to spread propaganda among American audiences. Chew mentioned that it was bad for business, and 60% of TikTok’s owners were global investors.
