Ben Alldis’ experience with melanoma played a significant role in his ability to support his fiancee, Leanne Hainsby, when she faced her own battle with breast cancer.
Before Hainsby’s diagnosis, Alldis had received his own life-altering news. While teaching fitness at the time, he was approached by a woman, who was a general practitioner, after one of his exercises.
She advised him to get his skin examined. Taking her advice seriously, he went for a biopsy and was diagnosed with melanoma, a form of skin cancer.

Despite the shock of the diagnosis, Alldis tackled his condition head-on and underwent a series of surgeries to treat the melanoma.
Thankfully, it was caught early at stage 1, and although the surgeries left him with a 10cm scar on his lower back, he was relieved that the cancer had not spread to other parts of his body.
When Hainsby received her breast cancer diagnosis, Alldis found himself reliving his own journey with cancer. However, this experience allowed him to empathize deeply with his fiancee and understand the emotions she was going through.

He said, “When Leanne got diagnosed, I sort of relived it a little bit. But it did really help me support her because I could understand the emotions that she was going through,” to People.
Alldis’ journey with cancer also equipped him with valuable knowledge about resources, support networks, and the importance of nutrition and movement in the recovery process.
With this firsthand understanding, he was able to provide invaluable support to Hainsby as she faced her breast cancer battle.
