DJ Khaled and Drake have shared a close and collaborative relationship over the years, often referring to each other in terms that denote deep respect and brotherhood.

Their frequent musical collaborations, public interactions, and mutual support on social media platforms showcase a bond that surpasses mere professionalism, revealing a genuine friendship and mutual admiration.

DJ Khaled and Drake have collaborated on several music albums ‘I’m On One’ (2011), ‘No New Friends’ (2013), ‘For Free’ (2016), ‘To the Max’ (2017), ‘GREECE’  and  ‘POPSTAR’ (2020).

DJ Khaled reflects on friendship with Drake

During the interview, Khaled said about Drake, “Our friendship is true brotherhood. We relate to each other in so many ways. We inspire each other, both of us. I tell him he inspires me, and he has no problem telling me I inspire him. We are brothers, and not just him. His whole family, his crew, I consider them my team”.

He also added, “He is such a beautiful man, such a talented person, but also he is one of a kind. There’s no way there’s another Drake out there. It’s impossible. It’s just impossible. The same way, there’s not another Khaled out there.”

Drake and DJ Khaled are teaming up once again. The ‘To the Max’ hitmaker confirmed that two new songs with the ‘Rich Flex’ star have been “mixed and mastered” for DJ Khaled’s upcoming 14th studio album, the follow-up to 2022’s God Did, which is due out this year.

During a recent Instagram Live, Khaled teased, “Ayo Drake fan hub, you know I got two Drakes in the can. Mixed. Mastered. You know I got two Drakes and two Champagne papis on my album. You know that right? The album’s Til Next Time.”

Both Khaled and Drake are successful businessmen. Khaled has his record label ‘We the Best Music Group’ and Drake has his label ‘OVO Sound’. They could potentially collaborate on a clothing line, a sports drink, or even a tech startup.

Both of them are seen in the movie, too. Khaled has starred in movies like Pitch Perfect 3, The After Party, Bad Boys for Life, Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, Bad Boys Ride or Die.

Drake starred in movies like Mookie’s Law, Breakaway, 6ix Rising, The Carter Effect, Remember Me, Toronto, and Black Ice.

When did DJ Khaled and Drake first meet?

However, it’s known that their collaboration and friendship date back to the early stages of Drake’s rise in the music industry, around the late 2000s and early 2010s.

DJ Khaled has been a prominent figure in the music industry since the early 2000s, and his career as a DJ, producer, and music executive took off well before Drake became a global superstar.

Drake’s breakthrough came with his mixtape So Far Gone in 2009, which quickly catapulted him into the spotlight.

Given Khaled’s established presence in the music scene, particularly in hip-hop and R&B circles, and his knack for identifying and collaborating with emerging talent, it’s plausible that their paths crossed around this time as Drake was beginning to make waves in the industry.

Their first official collaboration, I’m On One, featuring Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, was released in 2011. This track marked a significant point in their professional relationship, showcasing their chemistry and the potential for future collaborations.

Given the timeline, it’s reasonable to infer that their first meeting and the beginning of their friendship occurred sometime between 2009 and 2011.
