Millie Bobby Brown is all set to evolve. The 20-year-old actor’s new movie Damsel has just dropped on Netflix, rendering the actress as busy as ever with the film’s promotions.
With new set of interviews rolling in from Damsel’s promotions, the fans of the actor have noticed that the British actress sounds different this time around and may be losing her accent.
The concern began when the star appeared on Thursday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Brown’s fans from all over the world took notes of her changing accent and how the actress had fully adopted the American accent now that she was living and working in the U.S.
The Stranger Things star brought her usual confident persona and was largely engaging throughout the interview. It just so happened that she spoke in a solid American accent almost the entire time, leading her fans to take up the comment section to point out Brown’s accentual transformation.
“It almost sounds like she’s doing an impersonation of an American accent throughout this interview,” one viewer wrote in Fallon’s comment section on YouTube.
In a recent interview with @max_balegde on his Instagram page, Brown has addressed her ‘evolving accent’ and how the accent is just adaptive of the environment and the people she is exposed to.
“I grew up in America. I come to set, I am an actor and I adapt, and so I want to mimic people,” she said, speaking about her changing accent.
In the same interview, Brown also added, “When I’m around people like Jimmy Fallon who have a very American accent I want to replicate it”, hinting that she was well aware of people taking notes of her accent from the said interview with Fallon.
While a lot of fans made their opinions about Brown’s American accent evident across social media platforms, several fans have also shared that they can relate to the actor’s changing accent.

“I literally have two accents – I’ve lived in the UK half my life and I’ve lived in Canada the other half. People just don’t get it”, another fan wrote in the comments of the interview clip on Instagram.
However, this is not the first time Brown has addressed her accent. The Damsel actor was posed with a task to take up an American accent once she was cast in Netflix’s hit Stranger Things.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon in 2022, Brown expressed her love for Hannah Montana, the hit Disney Channel show, and how she practiced and perfected her American accent by watching it.
Brown also admitted that she could simply use any accent by listening to it in a movie or a TV show. “As long as I’ve watched it for long enough, I kind of get it to somewhat of a T, ” she added.
Brown’s new film ‘Damsel’ is out
The Emmy-nominated actress is currently busy filming for Stranger Things and is soaking in the reactions around her recent release, Damsel.
The film was released worldwide on Netflix on March 8, 2024, and stars Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Shoreh Aghdashloo, and Angela Basset alongside Brown. The film’s plot follows a survival fantasy with Brown’s character at the center point.
Since its release, the movie has received mixed reviews. While Variety has commended Brown’s ‘effort to embody the way young women use the world “damsel” with a growl,’ critics have also called it a ‘hollow Netflix fantasy with a loose script and a lifeless experience.’
