Michaela Coel is a multi-talented personality – she is an actress, producer, director, screenwriter, and singer. She gained immense limelight for starring and creating two television shows: Chewing Gum and I May Destroy You.

For her work in Chewing Gum, she received one BAFTA Award for Best Female Comedy Performance. Similarly, for her work in the latter one, she won one BAFTA TV Award and made history for being the first Black woman to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special.

Now, she is filming the sequel to Marvel’s 2018 Black Panther movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

With all the success she has achieved in a limited time, people worldwide have been eager to learn more about her. Among those different things they want to know, one is her personal life.

Does Michaela Coel have a husband?

As of this writing, there have been no reports of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate sharing the wedding vows with someone and having a husband.

Coel is a private person and rarely shares anything about her romantic life in public. Additionally, her social media handles are also clean and don’t hint at her having a spouse.

Speaking more of her social media handles, she is active on Twitter only for now. She previously was active on Instagram, too; however, she doesn’t use the platform anymore, as mentioned in her 2018 interview with The Guardian.

To conclude, it could be said that Coel is an unmarried woman.

Michaela Coel had a boyfriend in 2018

Although Coel might not have a husband now, she previously did have a significant other – a boyfriend.

In the same interview with The Guardian, in August 2018, the outlet mentioned that the actress has a boyfriend. However, besides that particular information, no other details about her partner were shared.

The outlet mentioned that Coel wouldn’t talk about her boyfriend as she values privacy very much. “Coel has a boyfriend but won’t talk about him, a testament to how much she values her privacy,” The Guardian had written.

Coel then mentioned that when she was an aspiring poet, she was carefree about the information she put on social media as she was yet to gain fame. But as she earned the limelight, she started to retreat from doing that.

“I have to sell this place out, or I’m not gonna break even – so I soon discovered that my personality is a way to draw people in. As my career has stabilised, I feel like I need to retreat more,” she further added.

Since that mention of her having a boyfriend, there have been no further updates on her relationship. As of now, it remains unknown if she is still together with her mystery partner or has broken up with him.

Michaela Coel identifies herself as “aromantic”

Coel is skeptical when it comes to romance. However, it’s not because her heart has been broken in the past or so.

During her interview with The Culture Trip in November 2018, the Black Mirror actress further discussed on the topic. She mentioned that she identifies herself as an aromantic.

As per google, aromantic or aromanticism is a concept in which a person doesn’t experience romantic attraction or interest in romantic relationships and is satisfied with platonic relationships.

In the interview, she mentioned that she first learned about the term “aromanticism” after she listened to “soul singer Moses Sumney’s album of the same name” and googled it.

She said, “I googled aromanticism and I very much felt like, ‘Oh, that’s me.’ Which means if you tell me to dress up nicely because we’re going to go to a dinner with candles, it’s not going to mean a lot to me.”

“It’s a waste of money and I have ingredients at home. Things like weddings and the expense of these things – I would rather settle for the rest of my life with a person,” she added.

Continuing her statement, she said she is “OK” being by herself. And though she likes having intimate relationships, she doesn’t want to change people or want to be changed by anyone.

In the end, she concluded by saying, “Diamond rings don’t make me happy. Flowers don’t make me smile. I can’t smell them. I don’t have a sense of smell. I want to know who you are.”

As she identifies herself as aromantic, many people were also curious about her sexual orientation. Additionally, Coel’s outer appearances, such as her makeup and clothing choice, have made people wonder if she is a trans male.

To answer that, all of those rumors are not true. There have been no reports or confirmation of Coel being a trans male; thus, the speculations are just hoaxes.

Thus, the actress is a naturally born female, her gender is also female, and her sexual orientation/sexuality is straight.
