Clara McGregor’s Wikipedia — Parents, Siblings, and Dating History

While Clara is a successful artist in her own right, she is also best known because of her parents — Ewan McGregor and Eve Mavrakis.

Clara was born on February 4, 1996, making her an Aquarius. At the time of writing, her age is 28. 

She was born to her parents in England, UK. At the time of her birth, her father was not as big a shot as he is today.

However, soon after her birth, her father’s Oscar-nominated film, Trainspotting, was released, which brought Ewan into the limelight. He talked about his stardom and his daughter’s birth with The Hollywood Reporter in 2021.

“I had Clara in my lap as a baby doing press at Cannes for Trainspotting.” He said, “Ultimately, through all of that craziness and that time, I had that sort of safety line through my life, which was my work and family, that I could latch onto.”

Throughout her childhood, Clara was kept out of the public’s eyes. Her parents raised her in a “sheltered” upbringing.

However, the actress does not have any complaints about it. She once said, “The only thing I had to deal with was kids at school saying, ‘Your dad’s Obi-Wan Kenobi,’ and that was fine, and I wasn’t thrown into the public eye before I had my own decision to put myself there.”

Before Clara decided to follow in her parents’s footsteps, she decided to be a photographer. As a result, she attended New York University to pursue a degree in photography.

However, after a year of going to college, she took an acting class and soon decided to be an actress. She eventually realized that she was uncomfortable studying photography and wondered why she was so “stubborn” about pursuing acting.

She talked about her journey with Playboy back in 2018. She revealed that because of her parents, especially her father, she did not want to pursue acting.

She said, “I said I was going to be a photographer, I’m going to be behind the lens. At 12 years old, I moved to LA which is all Hollywood and all I was asked is, ‘Are you going to do what your dad does?’ I was rebelling. I was like, ‘No! I’m not going to do what he does! I’m going to be behind the camera.’”

However, in college, she decided that photography was not for her and that being an actress was her calling. “And then I got to college and asked myself, ‘Why are you being so stubborn about this?’ I wasn’t happy in the photo department so I transferred to the film studies department and then I took an acting class and fell in love with it.”

Clara graduated from New York University in 2017 and has embarked on her journey as an actress since then.

Clara McGregor’s parents and siblings

As said before, Clara has famous parents. Her father, Ewan, is best known for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and has received accolades like a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award. 

Her mother, Mavrakis, was a French-Greek Jewish production designer. The couple met each other on the set of Kavanagh QC, in 1995.

They soon fell in love and got married. They welcomed two biological daughters, one of them being Clara and the other being Esther McGregor, who is also an actress and model like her sister and father.

Ewan and his wife adopted two children, Jamyan McGregor and Anouk McGregor. Clara’s adopted siblings are adored by her and her parents alike.

Ewan and Mavrakis sought adoption after meeting Jamyan at a Unicef children’s shelter during a 2004 cycling journey in Mongolia, which was recorded in the television series The Long Way Round. 

Two years later, in April 2006, they adopted the then four-year-old, with Ewan admitting that he couldn’t get the young girl out of his mind. Similarly, Anouk was born in February 2011 and was adopted by her parents when she was four months old.

Clara is very fond of her siblings and is constantly supporting them. She is also very protective of her siblings and once said, “I hope they can grow up in a world where they don’t feel like they need to look a certain way or be anything that doesn’t feel natural to them.”

Clara’s parents got divorced when on January 19, 2018, after being separated since May 2017. Ewan filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and it was finalized on August 13, 2020.

Clara did not take her parents’s separation well initially. When her father was caught making out with his current partner, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, in 2017, Clara was mad at Winstead.

At the time, her parents were not separated yet. Clara referred to Winstead as a “piece of trash” in a fan account-shared photo nine months after Ewan filed for divorce.

Clara later admitted to The Times in 2018 that she had not been mature about it. “There had been a lot building up to it and a lot to deal with — not to make excuses or anything — but yeah, it wasn’t my finest moment,” she said. 

She had not met Winstead and claimed that she supported her mother, Mavrakis. “I have my mom’s back in this — fully. Not only as a daughter but as a woman,” she said. Ewan got married to Winstead in April 2022 after welcoming their son, Laurie, in June 2021.

Now, Clara is more mature about her parents and is happy for her father, his new relationship, and her little sibling.

Clara McGregor’s boyfriend and dating history 

At the time of writing, it is unknown if Clara has a boyfriend. Not much is known about her dating history, but she once dated her boyfriend, Gordon Goodman.

They met in 2015 at New York University, where the duo studied film. They split in 2017, and Clara told Daily Mail, “It just was no longer working and we weren’t on the same page. It was the right choice.”

She then started dating dire­ctor Jimmy Giannopoulos and they were together for three years. Since then, it is unknown if she has had a boyfriend or if she is dating anyone. 

However, back in 2020, she came out as bisexual to her parents and siblings. She revealed that she had been dating girls as well and how her parents were supportive of it. 

“I went downstairs one morning and said, ‘I’m going on a date with this girl’. Mum was like, ‘Oh OK’ and it was fine,” she said. “My dad was ecstatic. He loved the idea. He was just very supportive of it and happy, he was just like it was all good.”

However, she has never revealed if she has had a girlfriend or not.
