Trevante Rhodes’s relationship status
Rhodes had not entered into marriage as of yet; however, reports surfaced indicating he got engaged to model Mara Wright.
The actor and Wright were speculated to have begun their relationship in 2017 but chose to keep it away from the public eye. It wasn’t until 2019 that news of their engagement emerged, when Wright’s relative, Tarrah Copper, shared a photo of the couple proudly displaying their engagement rings.

Despite the public acknowledgment of their engagement, the couple has chosen to keep further details about their relationship undisclosed. It is also unclear whether they are still together or have decided to part ways.
Currently, the actor appears to be prioritizing his career over romantic involvement. If he does have a girlfriend, he has skillfully managed to keep their relationship very private, away from the prying eyes of the public.
Does Trevante Rhodes have children?
Rhodes has a son, but he has opted to keep details about his child private. Interestingly, little is known about the child’s mother, as he has kept this aspect of his personal life discreet as well.
Despite his typically private nature, the actor opened up about fatherhood in a revealing interview with Rolling Stone in March 2023, discussing its relevance to his movie Bruiser.
He expressed a deep dedication to his son, stating, “This piece is dedicated to my son. Speaking more so to the end of the movie, because people are confused about the open-ended concept, me being both Malcolm and Porter in one, I’ll fight to the death for my son.”

Rhodes continued, “I have no idea what it’s like to not have that profound sense of love for the person you brought into this world. Time attention and intention. Follow suit fellas, please.”
Through these words, the actor not only provides a glimpse into his personal life but also emphasizes the profound impact fatherhood has had on him. It showcases his commitment to parenthood and highlights the importance of love, time, and attention in nurturing a relationship with one’s child.
Is Trevante Rhodes gay in real life?
Rhodes is not gay himself, but he portrayed a gay character, Chiron, in the drama Moonlight. The film follows the life of a poor, gay, black boy growing up in Miami and struggling to come to terms with his sexual identity.
Speaking about his role in the movie, the actor emphasized the significance of addressing such a pertinent subject matter in today’s society. He noted the challenges faced by black men in America, compounded by the additional difficulties experienced by gay men.
Portraying the character of Chiron, who is both black and gay, Rhodes acknowledged the heightened adversity faced by individuals navigating this intersectional identity.
Despite the complexities of the character and storyline, the actor emphasized the significance of sharing such narratives with the world. He found it uplifting to witness the positive reception Moonlight received, as it sparked important conversations and shed light on the experiences of marginalized communities.
Moreover, Rhodes admitted that he related to Moonlight’s character in many ways. Similar to Chiron, the actor experienced bullying during his childhood and turned to building his body as a response.
Reflecting on his past, he shared, “I’m the way I am now because I was bullied when I was the lanky, gangly, skinny kid. I was the guy who would flick everybody off, and my middle finger was this skinny, long stick. I got picked on because of that.”
Additionally, Rhodes felt a connection to the character due to a childhood friend who was gay. He recalled, “And then growing up with a best friend who is homosexual and seeing what he had to go through with his family, with other people, and not being able to identify with anyone because he felt like no one would be able to relate, and all these things.”
While Rhodes’ gay friend served as an inspiration, he clarified that it wasn’t his primary source of inspiration. He explained to People, “One of my best friends is homosexual, so I knew his struggle, but it wasn’t about pulling from that. I didn’t want to make it about that. It was really just about understanding people, understanding love and relationships.”
Trevante Rhodes’ role in ‘Mea Culpa’
As previously mentioned, Rhodes portrayed the character of Zyair Malloy in the legal thriller film Mea Culpa. The movie’s storyline revolves around an ambitious criminal defense attorney who, in her pursuit of becoming a named partner, takes on the case of an artist accused of murdering his girlfriend.
When discussing his portrayal of Malloy, the actor shared his initial reaction upon reading the screenplay. He stated, “When I first read the screenplay, I was like, ‘Let’s go finesse this, honestly.’”
He continued, “And then, how does it compare to other… I don’t think I’ve ever really seen an erotic thriller, to be honest. I don’t think so. I don’t think so.”
Similarly, when asked about his role, the actor said, “To be honest, I think Tyler took my life and just put it on the page. I think he kind of owes me copyright infringement, something.”
Rhodes added, “He owes me for that. Yeah, man. I was just embodying the words with my essence, as much of my essence, my energy as I could, and that’s what we got. I don’t know.”
Now that the movie was released on Netflix on February 23, 2024, many viewers have given it positive reviews. One person commented, “I enjoyed the subtle acting; it felt more natural,” while another stated that they loved the movie and would recommend it to others.
