Jacob Elordi, best known as Nate Jacobs from Euphoria, graced the cover of GQ for their September 2022.
Elordi made different comments during the interview that were deemed controversial. However, he also talked about his sexuality and being called gay in childhood.
He shared about embracing his femininity and how his role as Jacobs also has something to do with it. Here is everything we know about it.
Jacob Elordi on his sexuality
Elordi talked about being labeled gay at school due to his burgeoning acting career in the August 8, 2022, interview with GQ.
The Kissing Booth star debuted in acting at 12 when he started appearing in school productions in Australia. Unfortunately, this frequently drew criticism from his peers.
He was often called gay in school. However, this never diminished his confidence and self-respect.
In contrast, it was the opposite. He was good at sports and theater, which made him build an “abundance of confidence” in himself.
He said, “ I was quite good at sport, and I think I was quite good at theater. I felt like I was above it, or it made me feel older. It made me feel wiser.”
Similarly, he did not care what his schoolmates said about him. He was never worried that they would think he was “less than a man.”
He then said, “there’s the classic thing of I was doing plays with girl schools. I’m spending my weekends with the most beautiful women from the school next door, reading the most romantic words ever written.”
The more people teased Elordi, the more he embraced his feminine side. He recalled playing Oberon from A Midsummer Night’s Dream in school.

Oberon is a king of fairies and is gender-transgressive. The actor went all out for the role — he wore leather jackets, purple glitter on his face, hair with pink stripes, and rings on his fingers.
“I started welcoming those kinds of characters. I started welcoming the femininity. I started speaking with my hands. I started really playing the thespian,” Elordi said.
Elordi was excited to play Oberon for various reasons. But the one thing that excited him was how the character did not follow traditional gender roles. https://www.instagram.com/p/CdKYouaLFcL/
This encouraged him to continue what he was going — regardless of all the speculations around his sexuality.
He said, “Well, if you think this is gay, I’m going to be who I am when I was your friend, which is this hetero guy, but I’m going to play the arts. I’m going to do it, and I’m going to show you that’s [expletive].”
During the interview, Elordi also questioned labeling and confirming sexuality.
He noted, “I could never understand, how could you label anything, ever? How could you label sport as masculine? How does your sexuality inform your prowess as an athlete or your prowess as a performer?”
Nate Jacobs and dealing with sexuality
Jacobs is a toxic character on Euphoria, and Elordi has done a fantastic job representing Jacobs. However, it is not an easy job.
Elordi claimed in a February 2022 interview with Variety that he has kept journals only to figure out who Jacobs is, but he has not shared them with anyone.
He addressed speculation about Jacobs’ sexuality and said that there was more to the character than them being gay. He explained, “I never really approach it in terms of sexuality. I always approach it in terms of family.”
