Alexander Vlahos is a Welsh actor and a writer/director best known for his versatility and compelling performances across stage, television, and film. Born on July 30, 1988, in Swansea, Wales, Vlahos initially trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, where he honed his acting skills.
One of Vlahos’s notable roles came in the historical fantasy series Merlin, where he portrayed Mordred. His portrayal of the character earned him recognition among fans and critics alike.
Vlahos further solidified his reputation with his role as Philippe, Duke of Orléans, in the hit historical drama series Versailles. The actor has also made appearances in Fortune’s Fool, National Geographic Channel’s Genius, and La Ronde.
Outside of acting, Vlahos has also ventured into writing and directing. He wrote and directed the short film Painkiller in 2014.
Vlahos is also the new addition to Starz’s show Outlander. The show premiered on March 6, 2022.
Alexander Vlahos is married to Julia Howard
As with most actors, Vlahos tends to keep his personal and romantic life out of the spotlight. Looking at his Instagram, it is no secret that the actor is married and in a beautiful relationship with Julia Howard, who also goes by ‘Jules.’
Articles speculate that the two have been together since 2019, though the information remain unconfirmed. Howard’s personal information remains a mystery too as she maintains an extremely hush-hush life with a private Instagram account.
However, the actor’s romantic life garnered significant attention when rumors about his wedding started surfacing on Twitter and other social media platforms.
All the vague speculations were put to ease when Vlahos posted a picture of him and his wife on Instagram on the occasion of their first anniversary. One of his pinned posts on Instagram is a reel that compiles their wedding pictures and videos with the couple’s family and friends.
The wedding was apparently an intimate one, as Vlahos’ caption on the pinned reel reads, “106 days ago, a bunch of brilliant people got together in the French countryside”.
Alexander Vlahos and Julia Howard have a baby
About a week ago, Vlahos and Howard made their child’s birth Instagram official by posting a picture of the hand of all three of them.
As per Vlahos’ Instagram, the baby is named River Paul Vlahos.
Vlahos was engaged twice before Julia
Before his wedding with Howard, Vlahos was previously engaged to Swedish model Kajsa Mohammar. The two started dating in 2011 and got engaged four years after dating. However, the engagement was short-lived, and they broke off after three months in 2016.

Is Alexander Vlahos gay?
To answer the question in a single word, no. Vlahos is not gay.
His character in the French period drama series Versailles appears to be on the spectrum. Vlahos is seen in the role of Louis’ brother Philippe I, Duke of Orleans, who is working his way to get past his brother’s shadow and wears women’s attire to get attention.
The TV show got a lot of attention, and Vlahos’ sexuality quickly became a matter of gossip amongst the fans. They speculated if the actor was actually homosexual.
Speaking to Toby Earle from The Standard about the talk around Philippe’s sexuality, Vlahos explained, “that’s the one part of Versailles that I’m extremely proud of, our portrayal of this sort of gay relationship. The funny thing is that we never say that they’re gay; we never use the word homosexual. People see in these two guys that just so happen to be guys a beautiful, three-dimensional relationship based on truth, respect, and deviance – but that’s what any relationship has.”
In another interview with Radio Times, Vlahos added, “If Versailles were made now, I wouldn’t be cast as Philippe, and I find that a really interesting topic – because, of course, I wouldn’t. There’d be uproar if a straight, cis male was playing possibly the most fantastic gay man in France’s history.”
The historical fiction drama first premiered in 2015 and ended in 2018 with three seasons in its bags.
Alexander Vlahos is open about his battle with mental health
In early 2023, the Welsh actor announced that he was diagnosed with ADHD. Speaking to the WalesOnline podcast about his diagnosis, Vlahos said, “When I told all of my friends about it they said, ‘Only?’, as if they’ve always known. I genuinely think that my ADHD has been masked by finding a career very early on.”
Vlahos spoke at length about how he could see himself getting diagnosed and how he has craved drama from people around him since he was younger. He also believes that being part of the industry aligned with his condition well, as the energy, the opinions and the hyperactivity were encouraged.
ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is one of the most common neuro-developmental disorders characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
